2. Probably. My 86 yr old grandmother held on for 7 months until I could
visit her one last time, and my sister and her family could visit 2 days later, and I could arrange to take care of her cat.

She rapidly deteriorated and died 2 days later. But she knew her kitty would have a good home with me, so she could let go.
