Sorry, I'm not wild about Gregg at Commerce
I don't like his fiscal philosophy at all. He's very pro cutting taxes on corporations, he's a free trader. Not what I want to see at Commerce. Yes, he's somewhat moderate on environmental issues, but he's hardly a trail blazer.

The 60 Senator thing is not worth it. And there's no guarantee that Lynch will name a dem. It's just as likely that he'll name a moderate repuke.

It's a sucky choice for an important post.

1. Gregg would implement Obama's policies
Yes, he would have a voice, but not one Obama has to listen to. And if he doesn't, he'll be out on his ass, hopefully after we get 60 in the Senate.

I agree this should not happen if there's a chance Lynch will appoint a Republian, even a moderate one.

2. The Commerce Secretary really doesn't do anything. They don't implement tax policy
or spending policies. They collect data and talk to the press.

3. The 60 Senate thing IS worth it. Especially when Obama is ready to do
Healthcare, EFCA, Supreme Court Nominees, Family Planning, and Energy Policy.

Yes its worth it

4. The 60 senate thing is not a certainty
-snip-

* New Hampshire's Democratic governor, John Lynch, may name a Democrat to replace Gregg, which could give the party 60 seats in the Senate, enough to clear Republican procedural hurdles. But Lynch may appoint a Republican to avoid a backlash about handing Democrats a stranglehold on the Senate.

* If the governor replaces Gregg with a Republican, expect the new senator to be a moderate who ends up frequently voting with Democrats.

5. I wasn't either, until I heard the moaning and saw the gnashing of teeth on FAUX
Yes, they were as one on Fox News Sunday in bemoaning the disaster for the Senate Republicans if Gregg joins the Obama Administration. According to them, he's their smartest guy and losing him would be just awful. And ... even if there were a deal for the DemGov of NH to appoint a Republican to fill his seat, they saw little chance that the replacement person could hold the seat in next year's elections, while Sen. Gregg would likely retain the seat. They agreed President Obama seems to be pulling off a real coup, and that Mitch McConnell is pulling his hair out over this.

I'm learning to just relax and trust our President -- such a strange and unusual condition for me. But I'm keeping on with that picture and graphic from the campaign:
