us realize what's happening:

1. Appoint someone to office who owes back taxes.

2. Appointee pays back taxes and penalties.

3. Repeat 1 & 2 until the National Deficit is paid off!

;)

Seriously, I can't believe Obama's appointees are the only ones with this sort of tax problem. If the IRS was instructed spend the next year or so auditing just people making over, say $500,000, we might uncover some substantial revenue. I wonder how many of these people are stiffing the states on money, too.

2. Also, now that you mention it, was there to be some sort of
disclosure by the Swiss government about the secret accounts held in Swiss banks by tons of people who are avoiding taxes. What is the status there, anyone know?

Disclosure there would bring in a chunk of change!

4. It may be a drop in the bucket for the Feds, but I can see it making a real diference for a lot of
state budgets.

6. I love Obama, and he does have to make his appointments form a pool of
experienced people, but there definitely is a sub-culture of greed at work here. It shows what a good man Joe Biden really is that he's managed to live well on his Senate salary all these years without feeling deprived!

11. i myself can't help but wonder what's waiting in the closets of all
those raising a big stink about this tax thing. now, honestly, tim geitner i thought.... oh everyone makes mistakes. then i see this about daschle... and i'm like, what do NONE of these people pay their damned taxes in washington!! i mean. maybe it was an oversight, but I am beginning to think that there are a lot more of our representatives with similar issues. probably the ones screaming bloody murder the loudest.

12. The real mystery for me: how much can a chauffeur and driver be worth
that you pay a $100,000 in taxes? Does it cost $1 million for a chauffeur for a year?

14. Would we have known these things under the Bush administration?
I think not.

This is called transparency.

Washington DC needs washed out with the strongest disinfectant known to humankind... scrubbed! Lather, rinse repeat! Always repeat!

Shining a light on things is a good start. I find it hard to imagine that the Obama team would not have fully vetted these people, which leads me to think something else is afoot.
