I think electing Obama was a huge mistake
Can we get a do-over?

If only we had elected (fill in the blank), they would have tossed Bush and Cheney in jail, steamrolled over the GOP and had universal healthcare by now, and clamped down on the media for running all of these negative stories.

So, who do you think would be doing a better job by now? Perhaps we can run the government by proxy from DU.

30. Everyone who pisses the purity brigade off is "DLC" whether they've ever actually belonged or not
And, since it isn't hard to piss off the purity brigade, pretty much the entire Democratic Party besides Kucinich and the ghost of Paul Wellstone is "DLC."

It doesn't bother me that people want Obama to make more liberal, progressive decisions. It *does* bother me when people say things that aren't true.

Obama is NOT DLC. That is a fact. You can have your opinions - eg, Obama is too conservative - but you cannot invent your own facts.

60. No, they weren't. Obama was one of maybe only 2 who could've beat the Repub Machine.
Obama....and MAYBE Clinton.

If Clinton had won the nomination and then the Presidency, she's even more conservative than Obama.

All the others...they didn't stand a chance at winning the Presidency, even if they'd won the nomination.

64. Exactly...
What many here refuse to realize is that the country WILL NOT elect a Kucinich or Gravel. DU is not the real world. DU is very much further left than the electorate as a whole.

But I guess this is as good a place as any for us to come to whine and complain when we need to and there is really no place else to go.

17. Only 2 weeks have passed and you're bitching already?!
WTF?? Give him some time. Sure he's made a few mistakes in his picks for his cabinet. Granted the vetting process could have been better, but this is what you get when you don't have the luxury of time to put together a cohesive team. Things are bound to fall through the cracks. What do you expect?? Think back to Clinton's first term and remember how much time he had to put a team together. The economy wasn't in shambles and he didn't have the sense of emergency that we have now.

So, if Obama is a huge mistake, who is your alternative?? Give it a little time; it will all come together. Patience is a virtue.

It's been more than 10 years since the Monica issue and they still are harping about it. I didn't care then and I definitely care even less now. Even though I was not exactly thrilled with his conduct, I always thought that it was a private matter and that Starr had set him up (thanks to that nasty woman, Linda Tripp).

IMO, sexual peccadillos are no one's business but that of the people involved. With one caveat, that the people are adults and no one is forced to do anything they don't want to do.

My motto is live and let live.

It would also be great if we could get the media to stop being so biased toward Obama. Not fair!!!

The leaks from the GOP haven't gotten enough air time:

OBama continuing extraordinary renditions -- NOT TRUE, but a great effort on their part and didn't get enuf air time! wah! Lies, lies, lies....wish that they could go on forever!

Leaked stimulus report "won't stimulate economy" -- not the real report. when real report comes out, saying it WILL stimulate economy, at least one person covered it! Damn! this has got to end. Get the pork out! We don't need no levees!

He really needs to get going. today is TWO weeks he's been sitting around, doing nothing. well, ok, undoing a lot of something...but still...

But good God the man has only been in office for two weeks!

I knew he didn't have a magic wand to fix everything in a day and he's certainly a far cry above McCain and the Bush reich part duex.

Is he left leaning enough for everyone here at DU? No, probably not but if we had gotten the *progressive candidate* Kucinich would have won the primaries which was about as likely as monkey's flying out of my butt on election day.

Cut the man some slack...Rome was not built in a day and I would suggest tuning out the talking heads on TV for few days....like those F-ers are unbiased?

66. Edwards would have lost even without the scandal
Remember the This Week appearance when Stephanopolis hit JRE with 4 major 180 degree changes in his positions in his very short public career - all written on a blackboard? He handled that horribly - and part of the problem was that he had NO narrative explaining the change.

Remember how Kerry framed McCain - contrasting the somewhat reasonable "Senator McCain" with the radically conservative "Candidate McCain" - that would be how Senator Edwards would be portrayed. In addition, they would dig out statements where he point blank lied about what his position was at a particular instant in time.

Before you say that this would cancel between McCain and Edwards, consider the difference in tone because of prior public perception of their lives. Kerry had to carefully avoid appearing to attack McCain's character - including all the assumed good characteristics in "Senator McCain". In Edwards' case, showing the huge number of flips on major issues and lies - then speaking of him being a trial lawyer. (I know they serve on important purpose - but you know the stereotype).

I also think that one on one, HRC would have made mincemeat of him.

71. What you are seeing is a rightist-owned media finding every fault
possible, even when few really exist. They were silent or approving of a lot of real crime committed by the Bush regime, and now are back to boldly attacking the brand new Democratic administration every possible way because that is what they are paid to do. There are few of these people who are really impartial or even slightly left, and they will be singled out by the rightist majority as hjaving a distorting effect (telling the other side of the story) and trying to fool the poor American public.
They are just warming up.
