Ya know, it's odd.
Commerce is where Roosevelt sent Wallace to put him in a position where the Republicans would stop screaming their bloody heads off about his liberalism because he couldn't do any "damage" there. That is, they saw Wallace as VP as more of a threat than Wallace as Secretary of Commerce.
