Do you remember from last year, that HRC's genuinely important contribution to S-CHIP, which Kennedy and Hatch got passed, though the Senate had 55 Republicans was to persuade Bill Clinton to sign it and put funding in the budget. That was the program that she cited often as her healthcare credential - and her role was bringing Bill on board for what was the biggest expansion of government provieded health insurance in decades.

You might also look at the nearly 1000 page autobiography and see how much is dedicated to this - hint - it seemed to slip his mind.

12. No...I like him but:

1) Former Presidents rarely if ever want to take that giant step down. The only one I can think of is John Quincy Adams who later served in the House as a Congressman. Taft made a somewhat lateral move to the Supreme Court after being President.

Former Presidents are better off as "elder statesmen" who can serve as special foreign envoys for the current President and who can create foundations to do charitable works like Clinton or Carter have done (or like Poppy Bush and Big Dawg did for a few different disasters). Any good will people have for them is much better spent there.

2) It has a great deal of potential to create confusion as to who is in charge. Especially with a recent popular President like Clinton. Also especially given that Hillary is ALREADY in the cabinet and so many of the cabinet are Clinton re-treads. One President at a time please.

3) It would probably violate the 25th (in conjunction with the 22nd) Amendments to the Constitution since every cabinet officer is in the line of succession to become President should anything (God forbid) happen to President Obama and those above the HHS Secretary in the LOS. This is a highly theoretical objection but at least legally speaking would pose a problem for any 2 term former President who wanted to serve as a sworn cabinet officer in a later administration.

4) Bill Clinton would not be happy having to take orders from anyone. It's not in his nature to do so.

If Bill wanted to run for something again (doubtful) it would most likely be either Governor of NY, or NYC Mayor. The only appointment he would likely take would be to the SCOTUS and even then he would probably need to be CJ to take the job.

one guy (or gal) doesn't need to be King for life. It needs to be spread around and more people ought to have the opportunity to represent their country in gov't. I am thinking term limits are not such a bad idea. Wouldn't it be wonderful to be able to say "buh-bye" to entrenched Republican clowns like Mitch McConnell?

He's a former president of the US, why would he want to be in another president's cabinet?

Besides, Bill values his free time and he is fully committed to his foundation and the Aids Global Initiative.

An unofficial post would be more suited to his skills. Such as being sent as a mediator to some area where there is conflict. He is widely respected overseas and still has a lot to contribute.
