I sometimes wonder if the Republicans WANT to become completely irrelevant. |
|
It seems more and more to me that they are self-destructing, and have no clue how to fix it. They are pretty much just doing the same crap they've always done, as if doing the same thing will yield different results. They appoint Steele to head up the party, but he's saying the same crap repukes have been saying all along...he just has a different face. So, what say you? Is it that the pukes are too stupid to realize their strategies aren't working and are plowing full speed ahead regardless? Or are they so rotten to the core that they know no other way? Or do they genuinely want to ruin the G.O.P. forever?

1. it doesn't make much sense, does it... |

you would think they would want to win back some support, but being total creeps and obstructionists doesn't seem the way to do it.... :eyes:

5. No they think you are stupid..or more accurately that the American public is stupid. |
|
Their plan is to try to create gridlock and try to obstruct the recovery plan, hope the economy gets worse and in a year blame Obama and the Democratic Congress for failing to act to solve the recession and hope we don't notice that they (the GOP) were the real reason that nothing got passed.

7. They are having a first class identity crisis |

The GOP hasn't been the party of fiscal responsibility for nearly 20 years and some of the die hards are demanding a return to that core principle. Meanwhile, the neocons have basically left town, the corporate icons and bankers are too busy covering their ass, and the only other group holding down the fort are the fundies. Hell,it could be fun watching this play out. The titular leaders of today's GOP appear to be Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh and Joe the Plumber!

11. Isn't doing the same thing repeatedly, but expecting different results, the definition of madness? |
|
It is weird, isn't it? It's almost as if their party has been so manipulated by the PNACers and the fundies for so long that they don't know anything else.
If that's what they want to do, I sure won't go out of my way to stop them. The more they use the same dirty Rovian political tricks and use the same heated rhetoric, while Obama has soaring approval ratings, the more it will backfire on them and the more marginalized they will find themselves. And the more toothless we can make them, the less resistance there will be to pursuing a truly progressive agenda in Washington.
All of which is fine by me. :)

14. Don't bet on it. Given the way the Democratic Party does things, I can still envision |
|
the Republicans, even with losing the White House and both houses of Congress, STILL being able to hamstring the Democrats at every turn, simply because the Democrats have not one ball among them and don't fight back. The Democratic Party needs a lot more ballbreakers in their ranks.
