They Are Limiting Salaries Of Execs From Companies That Are Getting Bailout Monies......
what about the money that these same companies have been spending on lobbying efforts? Will this be fair game? I heard something to the effect that these same firms spent $114 million lobbying last year. I don't want bailout money being used for lobbying efforts or even campaign contributions. I know that in a way this is killing the goose that laid the golden egg for Pols - but I don't want my tax dollars going out one door and coming in the back pocket of the same Pols that may be voting for this.

2. Two problems with this...
Corporations have the same legal status as people. Horrifying, I know. And the Courts have deemed that lobbying and campaign contributions are a form of speech protected by the 1st Amendment. Ergo, corporations have the same rights to lobby and make campaign contributions as people. Barring a court decision that a) reverses the "corporations are people" ruling or b) otherwise removes lobbying and contributions as speech, what you're proposing is unlikely.

3. They have ruled people have a right to contribute
Edited on Wed Feb-04-09 08:34 PM by jeanpalmer
but they haven't ruled that politicians have a right to take money. If the taking of money is defined as a bribe, which is what it is, and it is prohibited, then it will be illegal for a politician to take it. That's how you prevent this bribery bull-hit which is rampant. Define it as a bribe. Require every contact with a lobbyist to be filmed and available to the public over the internet. See, there is a way to stop this corruption, if there is a will.
