President Obama, Republicans don't negotiate in good faith... |
|
you will never win them over by appeasing (reaching out to) them. They don't play nice. They cheat. They lie. They don't like you, nor anything for which you stand. At the same time, trying to appease them, by doing things like naming a flaming right-winger as friggin' Commerce Secretary, and giving up funding for family planning when the Repukes have no intention of giving anything in return, will only serve to alienate your base.
TO HELL WITH BIPARTISANSHIP. TO HELL WITH THE REPUBLICAN PARTY.
Use your mandate, and press your own party into doing what we elected you, and them, to do. Elections have consequences. Make those fuckers pay them.

2. The problem here still is that many of our elected Democrats are..... |
|
questionable as Democrats. I include both Reid and Pelosi in this questioned identity....... We have Blue Dogs and others that dance to their own beat, and that is and always has been a very big problem (certainly the last 8 years plus) with our party.

3. I've been saying this all along, and every time I said it, people jumped on me for it |
|
I don't know why people see the need to be nice to Repukes. They're not nice people, and they're particularly vicious and savage to those who aren't mega-rich.

5. It's like being in that groundhog day movie. The same scene |
|
get's played over and over like it never happened. It happened in the primaries, "why doesn't he hit back", and despite all that the media could do and everything else arrayed against him, he prevailed against the odds. Then in the general election, despite having had a good bird's eye view to what happened in primaries, his opponent walked into the very same course of action, and the cry went up again, "he needs to hit back now, and hit back hard", and despite all that the media could do, he won the general election.
And now here we are again. Same script. Same scene. De ja vu all over again.

7. Hi RE ! You are so right. The people didn't like partisanship - |
|
but only because there was gridlock and nothing got done. O just needs to woo a handful of mod reps and leave the rest in the dust. You can tell they are all excited - thinking their opinion really matters

15. That's what people don't seem to get. He doesn't have to |
|
convince all the republicans. Just a handful. People are acting like he has to get unanimity.

12. Well said. I'm hoping Obama's kumbaya offensive was only Plan A. |
|
Maybe Plan B is getting tough, kicking their behinds and letting the chips fall.

|
Edited on Thu Feb-05-09 07:54 AM by Connie_Corleone
He knows damn well what the republicans are like. Just because you would do things differently doesn't mean that Obama doesn't know what he's doing.
Good god! How do you think he was able to rise in Chicago politics and make it all the way to the White House?
Obama is not naive. And anyone who calls him that doesn't know what the hell they're talking about. Maybe they should read a book on how Obama got to where he is.

17. LOL. They don't even need to read the books. |
|
The same scenario will keep on getting played out again and again and they still will be saying, "he should be doing this or that"'s like. It's like people have amnesia.

I voted for him. I want him to succeed. But, guess what? Obama said yesterday, "I screwed up," and took responsibility for the screw up of naming Daschle. IMO, he also screwed up appointing Judd Gregg. He's a human being, just like all of us, and he will screw up, just like all of us.
IMO, and it's just an opinion, Obama is playing too nicely with the rattlesnakes who are the Republicans, and if he doesn't watch out, they will bite him.
