I heard Republican voters, McCain/Palin voters, cheering the CEO salary cap today. In TX. |
|
In the deepest, reddest county in TX.
Just because Obama won an election big time and is inaugurated doesn't mean the need for him to continue building political support has ended. He still needs to build support for his fledgling administration, although the nature and degree of the support and who it needs to come from is completely different than during, say, the Iowa caucuses or the general election.
The CEO thing is symbolic, but it's important. It's a signal to Wall Street, and America, that we're paying attention to this shit and we've had enough. No more blank checks to buy corporate jets, 1mil office redecorations for failing companies, and 10mil bonuses for execs of failing banks.
The sound of those McCain voters cheering the CEO cap in Red TX is the sound of Obama scoring political points in Red America, and grudging respect, for his new administration.
It's a sound that should put a chill in the heart of every elected Republican and those aspiring to office. And Rush Limbaugh better be fucking listening.

1. Limbaugh has a 21 percent approval rating...... |
|
When someone who has that little standing can have that big of a mouth, you know that he didn't hear anything that he should have with his good ear. 21% approval rating verification: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=4978611&mesg_id=4978611

2. Whenever it's properly framed as an issue of class... one against the other... |
|
We have them outnumbered.
The bullshit use of religion and family values, etc., all a distraction.
There are more of us, red or blue, who are sick and tired of the uber-wealthy, than there are of them.

5. Yes, someone saw it on the news on break and came back in and told us about it. |
|
That person was a McCain Palin supporter but was very much in favor of this move and overall felt that Obama is trying his best to deal with a shitty situation.

Are these the same people that were glad George gave them $300 while the price of gas quadrupled? The only thing Wall Street did wrong was to stiff America while taking the money this time. If they had passed out some shiny new nickels to these fools, they would still be listening to Rush and hoping for Obama to fail.

10. The CEOs getting giant bonuses should have formed their own |
|
"venture socialist" groups and invested significant percentages of their bonus pay into numerous public assistance programs, into relief programs, into various charitable entities.
They could have taken the initiative, set the example of corporate citizenship, kept some of their bonus money but still grabbed the moment, established themselves as Big Picture folks, and shut down avenues of objection to their being relentless greedhogs.
They dropped the ball from the git-go.
