The Impending Obama Meltdown
Looks like this is the "meme" of the week............

The man hasn't been in office a good 2 weeks yet, and look at this bullshit.

And what REALLY pisses me off is the fact that it's filtering ALREADY into the mainstream media.

Some of us have been warning that it was not healthy for the U.S. media to have deified rather than questioned Obama, especially given that they tore apart Bush, ridiculed Palin, and caricatured Hillary. And now we can see the results of their two years of advocacy rather than scrutiny.

We are quite literally after two weeks teetering on an Obama implosion—and with no Dick Morris to bail him out—brought on by messianic delusions of grandeur, hubris, and a strange naivete that soaring rhetoric and a multiracial profile can add requisite cover to good old-fashioned Chicago politicking.

First, there were the sermons on ethics, belied by the appointments of tax dodgers, crass lobbyists, and wheeler-dealers like Richardson—with the relish of the Blago tapes still to come. (And why does Richardson/Daschle go, but not Geithner?).

Second, was the "stimulus" (the euphemism for "borrow/print money") that was simply a way to go into debt for a generation to shower Democratic constituencies with cash.

Then third, there were the inflated lectures on historic foreign policy to be made by the clumsy political novice who trashed his own country and his predecessor in the most ungracious manner overseas to a censored Saudi-run press organ (e.g., Bush is dictatorial, the Saudi king is courageous; Obama can mend bridges that America broke to aggrieved Muslims—apparently Tehran hostages, Rushdie, serial attacks in the 1990s, 9/11, Madrid, London never apparently occurred; and neither did feeding Somalis, saving Kuwait, protesting Chechnya, Bosnia/Kosovo, billions to Egypt, Jordan, the Palestinians, help in two Afghan wars, and on and on).

Fourth, there was the campaign rhetoric of Bush shredding the Constitution—FISA, Guantánamo, the Patriot Act, Iraq, renditions, etc.—followed by "all that for now stays the same" inasmuch as we haven't ben hit in over seven years and can't risk another attack.

Fifth, Gibbs as press secretary is a Scott McClellan nightmare that won't go away, given his long McClellan-like relationship with Obama (McClellan should have been fired on day hour one on the job). Blaming Fox News for Obama's calamities is McClellan to the core and doesn't work. He already reminds me of Reverend Wright's undoing at the National Press Club—and he will get worse.

Six, Biden is being Biden. Already, he's ridiculed the chief justice, trashed the former VP, bragged on himself ad nauseam in Bidenesque weird ways, and it's only been two weeks.

And the result of all this?

His comments pertaining to Rush and capping pay of the (crooked) bankers are plusses.

5. And the way he came out against the big bonuses!
He's on fire with the truth. If I were a praying person, I'd pray for him to stay strong! Clearly they are out to push his buttons.

No way you can have anyone's ear and be this fuckin' insane.

8. National Review yelling into the sewer.
has little actual effect.

This is wishful thinking on their part, if they say it, it will come true. Different paradigm this time around. People want solidity, concrete accomplishment, not political score-keeping.

They are scared, and the rhetoric they are using reflects that fear.

(same thing, btw) to take President Obama down. I've had this sick feeling for days now, and as of last night, I said, "bullshit!" and sent out my best thoughts to President Obama. I will not allow the MSM nor the America-hating Republics to effect how I feel. We have a damn good President, probably someone who is perfect for the time and the challenges ahead, and he's tougher than most people think. Like others here, I also believe all the negative shit will backfire. Badly.

18. He's been flying way, way high for quite some time now, and reality will catch up
to him, too. That's fine. He seems to be able to take the heat.

People are star-mad and love a downfall even more than they seem to enjoy a triumph (unless it's a comeback, which has a built-in downfall element to it). It's human nature. He's been enjoying a hell of a run at the table, and he's going to lose a few here and there. He's botched up a couple of things and it shows. Big damned deal.

If his supporters rage and kvetch at him being taken to task for the odd bungling here and there, then they'll draw more attention to it and fuel the fire of those who depict his most ardent supporters as fantasy-based instead of being grounded in earthly reality. If a need for perfection persists, then his supporters will bring themselves down, but if a calm and steady acceptance of the sloppiness and series of trade-offs that is life can keep people on an even keel, then none of this is disastrous.

If his supporters insist on other-worldly perfection (or the acceptance of it as being so) then things will just get sillier and sillier. It irritates us mortals, even if we ARE of a similar political bent.

The good side of all this is that it humanizes him a bit more. A few warts are a good thing: the same icky side of humanity that craves the downfall of others NEEDS some weaknesses and flaws in its leaders and heroes. The perfect are despised in this life, and it's a raging against our own perceived shortcomings that fans the flames.

Life is a nuanced and analog kind of thing, and now that the sales job is over, governing and leading are a vastly different thing.

Chill.

19. The only grain of truth was the Gibbs = McClellan quip
The Daily Show did a funny montage of Gibbs versus McClellan (and other Bush spokesman) - it was very funny.
