Wondering about the DLC?
Here's a very informative article that I just posted in another thread but that I think should be read by all. It is worth questioning, now that they've reared their heads in such an obvious way, who constitute the DLC. This article helps. We should never just accept anything at face value and I think we're in danger of accepting the DLC as mainstream to the Democratic Party when the opposite may be true. But that is for all of us to decide independently after we have done the research.

is reason enough for me not to like the DLC.

He was on CSpan last night at a Chamber of Commerce event with Newt Gingrich. Sorry to say, but while Newt was articulate, affable, and interesting, Al From, in everything from his posture to his delivery to his "ideas," was meek, uninspiring, muddled and quite boring.

Hell, if Newt and Al were the only two faces of the parties I saw, I'd vote repblican just because the dems were represented by a cadaver.

2. Everything there is to know about the DLC (almost) is right here!

The great Eloriel's compilation of DLC research threads from the old DU: What Every DUer and Every Dem Needs to Know About the DLC.

If you haven't read these threads, you owe it to yourself to do it now. And if anyone is up to it, where did the money come from to fund the DLC early on? We need to follow the money!

3. Thanks. I'm certain that those posts had something to do with
formulating my opinion of the DLC. We should keep working on educating everyone. The theme: Education - The Key to Understanding the DLC's Irrelevance.

4. I'm shocked people don't 'get it' and need more info.

Al From in his appearance last night on C-Span made it abundantly clear whose side he was on: Republicans' / Conservatives'.

Heck, their whole raison d'etre was to 'co opt' the Republican agenda. What does that tell you? "Republican Lite"

Is it really any surprise to anyone that since they started flexing their muscles (Clinton's terms) that we've lost ground everywhere? Given a choice between a Republican and a Republican, they'll always take the Republican.

7. this article is not entirely accurate
It is giving a very slanted view. Al Gore has not been loyal to the DLC for years. Every democrat whoever belonged is not some sort of right-wing infiltrator. It is an organization that started and served it's purpose and then wore out it's welcome.
I am still proud of voting for Bill Clinton. I don't agree with everything he did but I am sick of seeing him vilified. Remember he also came to office to try and get national health-care, not exactly a right wing idea.
All I am saying is everyone has their agenda, including the person who wrote this article.

10. My take on Al Gore is that he has now broken with the DLC.

Do others have other opinions? I'd like to hear them.

ON EDIT: Also, the article I linked dates to 2000. I thought it offered a good history of the DLC and gave a good overview of their affiliations...still relevant. They are hardly true progressive Democrats and in my opinion, it's time to make a decision as to whether they have a place within the party, especially since they appear to be trying to damage Democrats more than help them.

11. I agree...this is why perhaps he supports Dean
Dean obviosuly is NOT the DLC poster boy....and Clark seems to be favored by Al From. I saw this exchange on PBS Newshour..it was an eye opener.

And if the DLC is an enemy...and they want Clark...then it's more reasons to choose Dean.
