The Real News: Two years recession, or ten years of hell?
Edited on Fri Feb-06-09 10:32 AM by dalaigh lllama
In this first segment of the interview, Paul Jay discusses how the global economic crisis will impact Europe with author and political economist William Engdahl.

Per Engdahl, not much the American president can do to avert depression, whether it's Obama or Superman or Donald Duck. Not a rosy picture, folks.

1. Time to burn the yachts in the Riviera harbors, among other brazen shows of excess wealth.

No, I am not joking.
Where is Mme. DeFarge when you need her?

4. Not really a solution, unfortunately

That's akin to smashing a hole in the wall when you're angry.

What we need are all these economists getting together and finding an international solution, and then putting economists on TV to explain to us instead of vapid dickheads like Buchanan et al who don't understand it anymore than Joe the Plumber.

2. Well if it's longer than 2 years we can kiss Obama's re-election chances goodbye
and Democratic control of congress. People will take their pain out on the in-party in '10 and '12 just as they did in '06 and '08.

3. Yep, Americans view reality in TV-like chunks of time. "Four years and not back on Easy Street?!"
Never mind that Republicans are claiming the crisis began BEFORE 2000; Obama's gotta solve it NOW!

5. FDR managed to stay in even tho the economy sucked
The pubs don't have a plan other than more of the same that everyone knows got us into this hole in the first place.

I hope Obama can crack the whip and at least get the dems away from their stupid gameplaying; then we still might survive this mess.
