"Lesbianism is so rampant in some of the schools in Southeast Oklahoma that they'll only let one girl go to the bathroom. Now think about it." Spoken at a Town Hall meeting, Hugo, Oklahoma, on 31 August 2004 - Tom Coburn

editing to add quote and attribution so I can always remember whom to credit. This is a GREAT line! Long may it be repeated - especially when some knuckledragger holier-than-thou CONservative starts foaming at the mouth about gays.

4. He's horrible. I remember reading that he used to perform sterilizations
on underage girls without parental consent. He's a fucking monster.

22. Yea, it was
underage, poor women. He decided all by himself that they didn't need anymore babies. How thoughtful of him to remove such a burden from those woefully unequipped to make such magnanimous decisions for themselves.

11. What stats did Contessa/Carlos quote to him about govt. jobs in OK?
Didn't they counter with something like, "4 out of 5 people in
Oklahoma work for the government"? Maybe it wasn't that high
but it was surprisingly high and seemed like a good smackdown
of AHat Tom.

I'm actually starting to feel better about the whole "PR
war" on this bill. Give the Rethugs enough time and they'll
show their true colors: PARTY OF THE RICH.

7. Yes we have dueling assholes
Coburn and Inhofe in Oklahoma. And it is all because no state has bought into the "all taxes are bad" and "all tax cuts are good" meme more than this one. That and you can get Rush Limbaugh on at least three radio stations from virtually any point in the state. And because of the influence of the Baptist churches, the level of homophobia and anti-abortion sentiment is through the roof.

8. I've noticed that. I feel sorry for all DUers from Oklahoma. Makes me wonder if
the Dust Bowl isn't still blowing down there and people are inhaling it and ingesting all that unhealthy stuff that can cut off circulation and interfere with brain function and ... well ... you know ... Or maybe these are all the sons and daughters of those who went through it in the 1930's.

I don't know how else to explain how Oklahoma votes the way it does. I mean - coburn and that IDIOT global warming denier inhofe!!!! If THAT was what was representing me, I think I'd be sick to my stomach most of the time.

My sympathies to all those who have to struggle under these Neanderthals.

10. The reason the Reagan revolution
was very quickly so successful in Oklahoma was the support the right wing got from the religious right. The Baptist churches in Oklahoma are so influential that almost overnight Oklahoma went from a fairly middle of the road--but somewhat conservative--state to a hard right state with the help of Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson. Then, when Rush came along helping the Bushes push "tax cuts, tax cuts" that just solidified it.

Believe it or not, there are still more registered democrats in this state than republicans and it wasn't until last fall's election that the GOP got control of one of the state houses. The problem is that many of the democrats vote for republicans and it is usually because the dem on the ticket can be shown to support choice or tolerance.

There are plenty of good progressive democrats in our state, but we only mke up 25-30% of the electorate.

21. Something happened in the 80s--
we had an influx of evangelical know-nothings, who teamed up with the homegrown Baptists to create these hybrid ROBO-INQUISITORS. They've taken over everything. I hate them and I hate what they've done to my state.

23. As I said - my sympathies.
We have to start re-framing and re-branding - with everything we've got - to outshout that stale old pre-Cambrian mindset. And it'll take time. The bad guys have at least a 30-year head start.

14. Our roads are evidence of this stupid
"all taxes are bad" mentality. You can always tell when you cross the state line into Oklahoma. We are a very backwards state and our two idiot senators are proof.

Whenever I drive to OKC from Lawrence, I'm amazed that they're STILL doing construction in the same spots. WTF, mate?

19. and contrast I-35 in Ok with the Kansas system of turnpikes and interstates
Kansas may be bassackward about evolution sometimes, but we sure know how to build decent roads (and pay for them).
