The Longer the Bill takes to Pass, the Worse those against it will Look before this is Over! |
|
Edited on Fri Feb-06-09 04:34 PM by FrenchieCat
Perhaps the bill is being stalled somewhat on purpose?
Why do I say that?
Because President Obama has a news conference scheduled for Monday, A Congressional Address scheduled for the end of the month, and town halls scheduled for in-between.
I'm now predicting that by the time all is said and done, the Republicans will be less popular than ever.
And yes, President Obama tried hard to work with the Republicans, in fact, many said "too hard".....and the nation publicly witnessed the Republicans deciding that they wouldn't have none of it.
When the billions being pumped into the economy start to show dividends, and that will happen....it will be easily remembered and well documented as to whom wanted to do what, of those running for election.
I believe that as long as we continue to voice our displeasure at those keeping the recovery package in limbo, and President Obama does what he does best, campaign against failed ideas.... I believe that things will play out as some had originally thought.... The Republicans and their co-horts have been handed rope for the past two weeks, and they are currently standing on the gallows, and have yet to notice the trap door beneath their feet.
President Obama and the voices of the American People are about to pull the trap door lever.

1. Agree we need to start spending trillions immediately in the War against Depression or we will be |
|
destroyed.
Bush made similar demands for authority to invade Iraq to prevent Saddam from using his WMD to destroy us.
That worked out well didn't it?

5. Why don't you ask the 4 million who have lost their jobs? |
|
I would ask my accross the street neighbor, but he and his family moved last weekend, as their home was foreclosed on.
As well, ask my tax clients awaiting their IOU from the State of California instead of a refund...
or better still, if I could take the time out to drive over and ask the DMV workers picketing the closed DMV office in my town how they see this economic disaster, they might have a different view of your Pres. Obama is like Bush and his WMD dumbass analogy. :eyes:

17. I said nothing about Obama. I oppose stampeding congress to pass another bill without thorough |
|
debate to avoid another catastrophe like Congress' authorizing Bush to invade Iraq.
Obama is not a dictator any more than was Bush.
Neither Obama nor Bush have advisers who know the answer to questions where intelligence on the topic is uncertain.
Obama campaigned as a constitutional scholar.
So be it but Obama is not a scholar on economics any more than Bush was an expert on invading Iraq.
If Obama were pleading his case after a year or two in office IMO he would have credibility but not after a few weeks in the Oval Office.

21. I disagree, thorough debate is not "being had". What I see are politicians posturing for PR value |
|
making statements that demonstrate an abysmal ignorance of the matter.
That may satisfy you but not me and millions of others.
I don't trust congress to make any better decision on this bill than they did on their bill authorizing Bush to invade Iraq. Many of the politicians today are the same ones that screwed up that bill.

but we have to do our part.
LTTE call cable chatter and demand info re the REAL CBO report and the bi-partisan support for it by world renown economists call senators call/email friends and family
(also, where's the liberal fauxrage over all of this????)
Get indignant, people! People are dying...freezing to death. Kids going without food.
We MUST be vocal about this -- history will judge this moment in time, don't let revisionism have a loophole (you know, where the repubs claim credit for this bill later).

4. The only problem with this is what will remain in the stimulus when they're done... |
|
They're cutting all the stimulus out of the stimulus bill today from what I've gathered. It may not matter when it passes, by the time they finish letting the Republican's get done "bipartisaning" the bill, there may not be all that much left.
They may end up looking bad in the long run, but at least they will have ensured another round of tax cuts for their fat cat CEO friends. I'm guessing that will help with their campaign donations.

7. He'll have his work cut out for him... |
|
It won't be easy countering all the time the Republican's have had on tv and radio this week. This bill should not have been handed to the Republicans for "compromise" after what they did in the House. I have a feeling that a very gutted version of this bill will be passed either late tonight or tomorrow. And then with little or no Republican votes at the final tally, even though we've offered up half the bill to them.
This whole thing sucks. I've tried to keep an optimistic view on the whole affair, and I know that Obama is a good closer, but the Senate and House leadership on our side has really thrown him under the bus on this. This has been mis-managed from the start.

When the Republicans feel they have inserted everything they want into the bill and removed everything that they don't want in it. They are holding the threat of a filibuster up to get everything they want. In the end, I doubt even one of them will even vote for it, and it will still pass but with all of their edits included.
They are crippling sections of the stimulus. This isn't some ruse that Obama has going where the Republicans are getting owned and they just don't know it yet. I had hoped that was the case, as it so often is, but it's looking more and more like Harry Reid is getting owned just like Nancy Pelosi got owned.
This isn't President Obama's fault, it's Harry Reid's and Nancy Pelosi's. It's even worse on Harry Reid's part since he saw what happened in the House and is still putting up with it in the Senate. The more I think about this whole thing the more I'm getting a very serious feeling that the Republicans are going to rip the guts out of this bill, allow cloture, and then vote against it en masse, knowing full well that it will pass anyway.
The Republicans aren't getting played, we are.
