3. Maybe Sen. Kennedy won`t be able to vote on Monday so they delayed it to Tuesday instead.
But that`s just a guess.

4. I was thinking exactly the same thing.
I may take a few days to coordinate Teddy's return.

5. Actually there could be another reason too: maybe the Dems are waiting...
for the MN Supreme Court to decide whether Franken should be seated or not.

If I remember correctly, it might be in the coming days.

9. However, once the home purchase and car purchase tax
breaks are added back in, the Senate version is expected to be passed at $827 billion.

12. Yeah, but the real vote is Monday night.
This is because of the peculiar ways of the Senate.

The vote on Monday will be the real vote, Tuesday's vote will mirror it. The Repubs might not filibuster, but they will raise a point of order against the bill that it violates the budget act. If the bill gets 60 or more votes, it clears this rules vote and the second vote should be a mirror of this vote.

Monday night at 5:30 is the real test.

15. It is the printed time for the vote
And a standard for Monday votes in general. This pattern follows the vote on Alito in Jan 2006. First was the vote for cloture which, sadly, passed that was held at 5:30 on Monday. Then the vote to confirm. Again, sadly.

The vote on Monday will take place. It is printed and confirmed. However, even with that and with the Tuesday vote, the outcome is not yet certain. The bill has to go to a reconciliation conference where the difference between the House and Senate bills are hammered out and the bill revised and resubmitted to each chamber for a vote. (By law, the House and Senate have to pass the identical bill in order for it to go to the President for his sig.)

18. Thanks. I didn't know about printing. The petition for cloture was done on Friday
and I thought rules allowed a Saturday/Sunday cloture vote. Reid had promised Thursday and Friday earlier which was the reason for the irritation in my post.

25. I heard somewhere they are already started working on the compromise version.
and the final version is likely to be closer to the Senate version than the House version for obvious reasons.

13. Reid does not have the votes for a successful cloture vote.
First he said Thursday, then he said Friday, then he said "the weekend". He is being played like a fiddle by Collins, Snowe and Specter. Watch them back out.

I doubt they will back out now.

21. My reason for saying so is that he keeps saying he has the votes for a certain
date, (Thursday, Friday "weekend", now Tuesday) and has not delivered on the promise yet.

22. Yeah, Reid does have a tendency to speak too soon.
But this time, the consensus is they have the votes unless something drastic happens between now and Tuesday.

Yes, that will be the real test.

20. Great, more time for Reid and the Dems to give away more good stimulus portions of the bill
And replace them with more tax cuts for the wealthy.

This bill is becoming a disaster. We're going to wind up pissing more money we don't have on tax cuts that we don't need and that are ineffective, meanwhile the rest of us will sink under the economic waves.

All because the Dems either don't want to or don't know how to fight.
