This bad, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office shows us: Click on the link below to see Nancy Pelosi's Chart!

http://swampland.blogs.time.com/2009/02/06/how-bad-is-it/

The blue line shows job losses in the 1990 recession; the red line is 2001, and the green line is the path we are on now.

UPDATE: To clarify, these are not projections. This is actual job-loss data.*

Pelosi's office explains:

This chart compares the job loss so far in this recession to job losses in the 1990-1991 recession and the 2001 recession -- showing how dramatic and unprecedented the job loss over the last 13 months has been. Over the last 13 months, our economy has lost a total of 3.6 million jobs – and continuing job losses in the next few months are predicted.

By comparison, we lost a total of 1.6 million jobs in the 1990-1991 recession, before the economy began turning around and jobs began increasing; and we lost a total of 2.7 million jobs in the 2001 recession, before the economy began turning around and jobs began increasing.

*Pelosi's office says they used Bureau of Labor Statistics numbers.

1. Nary a doubt in my mind...you can't lose over 500,000 jobs every month
and not have it make an impact...the reality is, we have not even begun to understand how serious this depression is going to be....wb

2. I personally know seven people who have lost their jobs since
September. Seven. Just in my little social network. I don't ever remember anything like this in the past.

7. Where I work we lost
20 in December and 14 more in January. Our total blue collar force is now 102 with about 50 white collar on top of that.

The work week is down to 32 hours and the company wants to take another 3% off our hourly rates and stop all 401k matching.

5. It kills me that Pelosi's office is making this chart before everyone else
With all the ridiculous charts and graphics the MSM created during the campaign, we had to see the damage of this recession (depression?) from Pelosi's office first? Are think tanks coming up with anything better?

Seriously...wtf? No offense to Pelosi's office, but damn!
