53. DING Ding Ding! Education breeds thinkers which are the enemy to the conservative ideology.
They need to keep their base ignorant and clinging to their faith or else their base would wise up and see that the GOP's only goal is power and money, not helping this country and the poor uneducated working folk that make up their base.

Once Educated, people that are in the GOP base start to expose themselves to the rest of the world, they realize that the gay community is not a bunch of deviants, that building up our environment is more then just growing corn, That not all minorities are illegal immigrants, That Using stem cells is not the equivalent to killing babies, That the rich don't know everything and aren't there to protect us and provide jobs.

In short they become less ignorant and open their eyes to the possibility that charity and paying ones taxes does not make us a modern day robin hood.

7. public school
many of them gave up on public schools when they were desegregated. If it isn't out in the suburbs, public school is for the poor and people of color - they don't want their kids around those types, and they don't think those types can learn anyway. Plus the gov. won't let the kids prey - and those heathens need it most - and public school is for thugs in the making. Thus vouchers for private schools - where kids can be led in prayer and poor kids can be kept out are what they support, and privatize, charter schools etc. every thing that makes public schools look bad helps that argument.

19. Educated people don't vote Republican
You should see the republicans where I go to school, they run out of class upset anytime the professors say anything that contradicts GOP talking points. Ive seen them run out half crying while a professor was going over the syllabus.

When your belief system is based on bullshit, you develop a very thin skin.

They also believe that science is a religion. You must understand, reality is like a big, scary, haunted house to them.

studies have shown that the more educated a person becomes the more likely s/he is to become a progressive/liberal, and thus, a democrat.
So for repubs the less educated a person is the more likely they can manipulate that person into believing lies and hence win an election.

education is power. education is knowledge which is power. they can't pull the wool over someone's eyes if they see it coming and know what's going on. but ignorant people... they will do what they are told. uneducated people tend to be easier to fool. and to control.

59. Rove quote paraphrased: "Educated people vote democratic."
Our education plan allows us to make further gains in the suburbs. It will also allow us to make gains with Hispanics and African-Americans. As people do better, they start voting like Republicans -- unless they have too much education and vote Democratic, which proves there can be too much of a good thing.
