Elkhart, Indiana - People wait in long line for tickets to see Obama
People wait in long line for tickets to see Obama

By SUE LOWE
Tribune Staff Writer

ELKHART — "I didn't know I was coming to a football game," said Rick Newbill when he realized the line to get tickets to see President Barack Obama Monday snaked all the way around a parking lot to the football stadium at Concord High School.
"I don't mind standing in line," he said. "I want to hear what he has to say."

Like many people, he would talk about the economy if he had a chance to talk to the president.
"What do we have to do to change how we do business?" he asked. "There's got to be other industries that can be brought to this area."

Newbill said there are buildings and workers and lots of talent in Elkhart County and the area should be able to attract businesses not related to the recreational vehicle industry.

The Elkhart-Goshen area had the largest jump in unemployment in the country, from 4.7 percent in December 2007 to 15.3 percent in December 2008.
"They need to do something with the economy — get us jobs," Phil LaBar of Goshen said. "They need to go in a different direction."
LaBar arrived at the school at 11:30 p.m. Friday to be first in line.

-snip-
The doors to the school opened at about 11:40 a.m. and organizers had run out of tickets by 12:15 p.m. They were taking the names of those who had waited in line so they could get tickets.
Tickets were supposed to be available again today, but were all gone by early Saturday afternoon.

I live about 10 miles from Elkhart - and there are a LOT of knuckle draggers in N. Indiana. The comments section in the local news websites are pathetic!

9. (rubbing my hands together) .... the plan is already working....
... here's how I see this going down ...... the President spends next week doing his Obama-thing ..... campaign-style speeches which will get the voters pumped up ..... phone calls will be made to DC and letters will be sent ..... by late week, most of the moderate Dems and some of the GOP will respond to the growing outrage of the American people that they cut the BS and get something done.

It will be a sight to behold no doubt.
