Anyone else have the Sunday night, Nobama blues?
Edited on Sun Feb-08-09 09:19 PM by Clio the Leo
So I eat, sleep and breathe Washington news ... one of the first things I do in the morning is check The Page and Politico (I know filthy rags but they've got stuff to read before anyone else) to see what's on the schedule for the day. I then set my Tivo accordingly.

During the day, instead of smoke breaks, I take iphone breaks to see what news has happened while I've been away.

Evenings are filled with watching Tweety, Keith and Rachel and then watching them AGAIN and then watching CSPAN's replay of the days tv events.

And that's how it goes Mon-Fri.

Saturday is tolerable because I'm gone most of the day and night ... even if there's no news, I dont miss it.

And on through Sunday UNTIL Sunday night rolls around. Things are settling down from the weekend, there's nothing on TV .... I've read all the threads at DU 14 times .... bored bored bored.

Politico and The Page have had the same headlines up for going on 48 hours .... there's nothing listed for Monday's schedule yet.

THE PAIN BECOMES ALMOST UNBEARABLE!!!!!! :)

HOW WILL I MAKE IT ANOTHER 12 HOURS!!!! AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and dont point and laugh at me, you know you're just as addicted as I am. :p

I'm seriously! We did not elect this man for only five days of the week! DO SOMETHING BARACK SO WE CAN READ ABOUT IT!!!! (ha ha)

2. a ha!
I'll switch just as soon as Katy Perry is done singing "Kissed a Girl" at the Grammy's ..... she's dressed like a circus ballerina and dancing around giant fruit .... well, if you could call it dancing ..... more like pointing and rolling her eyes.

it's like a train wreck ...... cant turn away .... dont want to see ......ewww!

The Jonas Bros. were just on with Stevie Wonder ..... couldn't help but wonder if two little girls in DC were watching that ..... and whether or not their mommy and daddy put the TV on mute when the fruit girl came on. lol

before we hit the chorus.

28. Its so weird/funny to watch that. Lots of insulting each other directly.
Not like here where its all games. PM gets insulted by all kinds in the government, and stands up and down to answer questions. Gordon Brown was slammed hard over and over again the last time I watched cause of the economic crisis in the UK. Highly entertaining stuff.

4. You are among friends.....
.... and we're here to help you. Just dont tell anyone ELSE you have this problem.

I'm sure my friends have no clue ... I've got them convinced I'm not Googleing the news but instead reading text messages from an exotic stranger who's currently an astronaut on a secret lunar mission.

And as for my cowokers ..... I dont think they've caught on either .... anyway they're too busy decorating my desk with Obama news clippings to notice that I'm reading my phone all the time. :)

11. Read presidential history...
Edited on Sun Feb-08-09 09:49 PM by Captain Hilts
Harry S. Truman by daughter Margaret Truman is a fun read.
Eleanor Roosevelt Vol. 1 by Blanche Wiesen Cook is more readable than Eleanor and Franklin and has more modern sources.
Richard Reeves' biography of JFK is the best along that line.
Franklin and Winston touches on biography, diplomacy and history and is a surprisingly easy read.
Any volume of Caro's mult-volume biography of LBJ would be good.
I have issues with the research in it - she missed some major sources - but Doris Kearns Goodwin's No Ordinary Time about the Roosevelts in the White House is an easy read.
I have not yet read Team of Rivals, but as an Obama fan, you probably have. If you haven't read it - start there!

Reading about the Tuskegee Airmen is always invigorating.
I'd also recommend Marinnis's biography of Robert Clemente.

15. Read? What is this "read" you speak of?
I'm sorry, you probably dont know that I was voted by my fellow grad students as "President, CEO and sole member of the 'Bad Historians Club'" because of my general disdain for reading.

I dont suppose Barack Obama has recorded any of those books you mentioned in audiobook form? Because, if he has, I'm all on it! :)

37. You can hear him say all kinds of dirty words on the audio books. I'm sure you've
seen some of the new excerpted/spliced versions running around this week.

I did freak some people on DU out before the election when I acknowledged that I have literally heard Obama say the word "mother-f@#ker".

I thought that Obama winning the election would cure me of the unusually high interest I have in politics... but that wasn't the case... Maybe after the stimulus is passed?

having withdrawal issues.

I told her the good news was that Monday brings a town hall during the day and a prime time press conference at night.

:woohoo:

42. I have largely given it up. I watched just a couple of minutes of Morning Joe
and then I turned off the TV and did some work on a short story I have been developing. I am writing about a group of affluent liberal suburbanites. The story takes place right after Obama's election and politics flavor the story but it is basically about a suburban woman's infidelity and includes flashbacks in her life.

Hey, this situation for some creative endeavor, even if you don't get published (which I don't pretend I will, tho I might try).
