Economic stimulus bill moves to Senate test vote

WASHINGTON – The Senate lined up to advance the $827 billion economic stimulus legislation backed by the White House on Monday, and Democratic leaders vowed to deliver a bill to President Barack Obama's desk within days. Still, key lawmakers braced for a difficult round of further negotiations aimed at producing a final House-Senate compromise.

Even so, in the hours before Monday's vote, Republican opponents attacked it as too costly and unlikely to have the desired effect on the economy. "This is a spending bill, not a stimulus bill," said Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn.

At some point, I'm going to start supporting an intelligence test for election to Congress. I really wonder what Lamar! thinks a stimulus is. I would speculate, but I know that we're not allowed to start sex threads.

1. Has that fuckhead not been paying attention?? Stimulus = Spending.
There is no other way to do it. I will say one thing for the idiots, they are stubborn, even when it's clear they've lost.

2. To imprint the usual "Democrats do nothing but spend" theme. He knows the real score.

3. He's right. Not enough stimulus bang for the buck in this bill.
I don't like the Republican tax cut plans either, but this bill is garbage.

6. The big mistake made by the Democrats was putting the tax
cut into the bill. Tax cuts should have been a separate item later on.

7. I think tthe bill should have concentrated on real stimulus items...
...alternative energy research and funding for the arts may be worthy of federal dollars, but they're not stimulus items.

9. I'll bet he'd support it
if the bill was to put a trillion dollars or so towards blowing up Middle Easterners or buying yachts and Hummers for him and his country club buddies.
