A "truth and reconciliation commission?" Just like the one in South Africa that let human rights violators get off scot free without any punishment? Gee, that went well. Seems like South Africa degenerated into an age of violent crime because of the perception that you could commit atrocities and never be held accountable for them.

We don't need a truth and reconciliation commission. We need trials. Televised. And if a guilty verdict is reached in any of them, we need sentencing that is harsh enough to send a clear message to the right wing that this could happen to them, too.

1. Nope, the crime in South Africa is NOT a result of the TRC.
Read a bit more.

2. I disagree with your premise entirely.
I think the Truth and Reconciliation Commission was the best S. Africa could have hoped for. Was it perfect? No, but I think it was the best option for the situation.

And what Sen. Leahy is proposing, as far as I can tell, has no necessary relation to the TRC... Am I missing something? (I mean that sincerely).

4. That guy from HuffPo at the press conference seemed to the the TRC would do the same thing
No accountability, no punishment, no nothing. If we're both wrong, I wish someone would tell me.
