You were right. I was wrong.
During the primary, I was worried, even frantic, that Obama did not have the practical experience to be president. I was afraid we were nominating a slogan while throwing away a first class lady like Hillary Clinton.

Well, it seems I was mistaken. The President is doing a first rate job. He's smart, shrewd, tough and above all right. I saw the press conference last night and no longer saw Lincoln. This time, I saw FDR.

I am still pro-Hillary and I am glad to see we did not just ignore her abilities. After eight years of habitual screw-ups, the voting public finally got it right. The President is exactly who we need right now.

they will remain glum. Nothing will satisfy them. And they can go cry in the corner with the 20%ers.

28. With you there.
I had a healthy debate with a VERY pro-Hillary African-American lady named Cheryl during the primaries.
When Hillary conceded, Cheryl was gracious enough to congratulate me, and I told her the truth - just the fact that a woman AND a Black man were in the position to be a major party Presidetial nominee was historic, and America was better for it either way.

I also liked Obama but I guess I was too pessimistic to believe that this racist country would elect him. We need to keep the new young and minority voters that help get him elected involved in further elections. 2010 is going to be one of the most vital elections of our lives...

17. I saw FDR, and JFK, and even a bit of Reagan.
By Reagan I mean the charm offensive. He's got the cool to sail through a tough thing like last night and keep it all together. I get the impression that when his opponents once meet him and talk with him, they are won over. Ha--maybe Hannity should have that beer with him!

I saw JFK in the sharp turn of is words--the way he can use them to define himself and cut the other side down without seeming to. I saw FDR in the boldness of his ideas--his determination to fix this mess.

18. he wasn't my first choice, but as the campaigns ran, I saw he was all that and a bag of chips
my first clue was how the republicans kept hiting everyone he ever met, but couldn't lay a glove on him.
That told me they had NOTHING on him, or they would have used it. And the way he directly deflected the attacks and made them look like losers was enough for me.
I had said it back when Kerry was running and getting swiftboated. = the key to defusing the lie is not to defend against the lie itself, but point out the motivations of the person lying. Its like turning on a light and the cockroaches scattering. The lies work for the repubs as long as no one points out the man behind the curtain.

I am happy to apologize for underestimating the integrity and talents of Mix Clinton and am very happy and secure in the knowledge that she will do a fantastic job and be very influential in the current administration.
I also have come to the conclusion that while it just wasn't her time she would and can still make an EXCELLENT president!

42. USA! USA! USA!
On the night of the election, my wife and I and a bunch of other folks were hanging around Dem. headquarters for this county. I knew we we had won because we took OH, PA and FL. Still the west coast was still voting. The minute they closed, the networks called the election for Obama. My wife started crying in relief and a man we know who managed the local effort four years ago and who has been waiting for this since 1972 came over and gave us hugs. I was a good night at least until the local election results came in. My boss kept his (and our) jobs. Everyone else on the county level lost. And of course prop. 8 and the similar measures in other states were a bit souring. Still on the national level, a crushing victory.

The people elected him.

The media will not give him fair coverage. The republicans get all the air time for their arm-waving and irrational whining.

Going to Elkhart and to Ft. Meyers was smart. Holding the press conference was even smarter. I was glad to see him emphasize that he inherited this mess.

54. I like both
I'm glad they are serving our country right now. I maybe slightly leaned Obama, partly because I knew he had it won in February and I wanted it over asap, and also because of his early opposition to the war. But I never picked one over the other, and I couldn't decide in the primary so I abstained from voting for either. I just felt they were both excellent choices and I couldn't decide. I think they are both great where they are at and things worked out well for us. I always knew he wasn't a slogan, because I looked at his record early on, he was a workhorse from the moment he got into the Senate and I might not have agreed with him on plenty of things but he's a serious critical thinker. A real person of substance. I'm confident he'll do a good job, maybe even great depending on how things unfold.
