Republican Mayor of Ft. Myers FL fully supports Obama. |
|
Edited on Tue Feb-10-09 09:28 AM by Avalux
He was just on MSNBC; interviewed during live footage of Obama boarding AF1 to travel to Ft. Myers this morning for his second town hall meeting.
I can't remember his name, but the guy absolutely gushed about Obama's leadership and that his town fully supports the stimulus package. He also commented that a lot of people in Washington don't understand what's going on in the towns and cities of America; how much they need help. He is eagerly awaiting Obama's arrival. :-)

1. The Governors and Mayors will be key to this bill passing. They |
|
know how dire the situation is in their towns and states and hopefully will put pressure on GOP Congress critters to vote for it.

6. I think these Repub govs and mayors get that people are hurting so bad |
|
They have to deal with actually getting a real budget (and not just keep printing money with a huge deficit) in order and directly see what cuts and less tax revenue does to services in the states and towns. They get it. I like how they are rallying around the President. The national GOP is a sorry bunch however. I think Crist is secretly happy Obama won instead of McLame.

And things are only going to get worse.
I'm looking forward to seeing more FL republicans see the light, for once.

10. Me too. I live in CT and even we (one of the wealthiest states in the union) are having problems |
|
We have rich suburbs near NY but some struggling cities and little towns. We have a budget crisis here too, is affecting all the states.

8. The people in the trenches, even the GOP ones, |
|
are seeing through the bullshit. They are the ones that need an incredible amount of assistance and they are helping the President call bullshit on the obstructionist, morally bankrupt republican members of the house and senate.
There's and old saying that "all politics is local." That is why what the republicans are doing is likely to bite them in the ass. While the Washington compliment of the GOP is trying desperately to protect their failed ideology, the local politicians--particularly the ones in their own party--understand the reality.
One can already see the democratic campaign commercials in 2010.
