A core hypocricy of CONservatism regarding federal and state governments

The CONservatives have long used the mantra that state government and states' rights should trump centralized federal government.

That was the figleaf that was used to fight integration in the 50's and 60's -- civil rights was ursurping "states rights" the segregationists claimed.

It's also been used countless times since then to oppose abortion rights ("should be a state issue"), federal programs, etc. etc. etc. It's what they also use as a yardstick for whether federally appointed judges are "constitutionalists" or not.

Now the GOP CONS are opposed to the federal government sending money to the states to help pay their bills?

Seems to me that would be the ideal solution for a true conservative. Instead, they are fighting against that aspect of the stimulus too.

I love the smell of hypocrisy in the morning.
