Henrietta Hughes and Ronald Bricker

Not many of you will remember Ronald Bricker.

In 1983, at the height of Reagan's recession, Mr. Bricker - a laid-off steel worker - approached Ronald Reagan and handed him his resume.

Mr. Bricker was wearing a business suit and pleaded with President Reagan to help him. Reagan, sensing a P.R. coup, managed to get Mr. Bricker a $6.50/hour job at Radio Shack.

Three months later, Mr. Bricker ended up quitting his Radio Shack job because his take-home pay was less than he was receiving from Unemployment.

Reagan's symbolic gesture was a major embarrassment.

Now.... we see a similar situation with Ms. Hughes approaching Obama and begging for help in the midst of a deep recession.

I'm betting Obama does more than get Ms. Hughes a low-paying job that won't get her back to living in a house instead of a car.

1. President Obama actually gives a damn about the
American people and their suffering. Reagan 'sensed a PR coup' - that says it all.

3. Someone made the point that it was great to see that she felt she could ask him for help, it does
...indicate Obama is tangible and that's what people need now.
