now that he's seen homelessness firsthand, perhaps he'll go back to washington with a more steely resolve not to take anymore GOP obstructionist bullshit. We can only hope.

1. You think Obama hasn't seen homelessness firsthand before?
Edited on Tue Feb-10-09 04:29 PM by Avalux
Sure he has. Do you think up until today, Obama hasn't understood the crises facing people in this country? He understands - and that's precisely WHY he's masterfully defeating the pukes with political jujitsu.

Obama already has steely resolve and I'm happy with what he's doing.

4. You're right. In all his years first as a community organizer in the South Side of Chicago,
then as a lawyer focusing on employment law in the South Side, then as a State Senator representing a poor South Side district, he had never come across poor urban people before. Maybe that will cause him to rethink his entire political philosophy.

6. I believe that his time as a community activist got him close to many of the poor and homeless.

I was just really affected by seeing Henrietta, that's all.

And another thing that's sort of bugging me about Obama's answer to her. He said "I'm going to do everything I can to help you, but there are many others like you..."

"but"? Why would you say "but" anything?

Am I being over-emotional here?

PS: sort of a defense of my OP, yes, Obama did encounter homelessness during his time as a community organizer, but like any human, he forgets. Perhaps meeting Henrietta reminded him. After all, he has been talking a lot about the middle class in this country, but not saying much about the poor.

11. You're cool...I don't post many threads because sometimes
they go off the rail!

He had to be truthful about the fact that there are a lot more out there like her, and in even worse situations than she is in. If he did something for just this lady do you know how many people would scream about it?

10. Oh, I hope not...
because Obama's "bipartisanship" will be the doom of the GOP.
He's making them marginalize themselves, as I've said elsewhere, and thus neutralizing their ability to block him.
