U.S. Rep. Steve Austria said he supports a scaled-down federal economic-stimulus proposal, but the Beavercreek Republican told The Dispatch editorial board that the huge influx of money into the economy could have a negative effect.

"When (President Franklin) Roosevelt did this, he put our country into a Great Depression," Austria said. "He tried to borrow and spend, he tried to use the Keynesian approach, and our country ended up in a Great Depression. That's just history."

Most historians date the beginning of the Great Depression at or shortly after the stock-market crash of 1929; Roosevelt took office in 1933.

A hearty congratulations to the people of the 10th District of Ohio for electing this moron.

3. Steve Austria is a douchebag
I was stuck back to back with his chair at the next table Saturday night at an event. His sidekick Tim Schaffer was there too...another dingbat asshole who suffers from MAJOR height challenged man syndrome. They both always try to shake my hand, I am running out of ways to avoid that...they both have the "smarmy" effect on me. I kept having to pretend I did not hear either of them trying to get my attention. I also swear they have a bet at each event we are all at to see which one of them can bother me the most.

Bleh. I always have to hold my tongue based on where I work, and what my hubs and father do....diffrent things all three that box me in a corner sometimes.

5. Let's see, GDP under Roosevelt rose an average of 7.5% a year during his first eight years.
Unemployment fell from 25% to 10% during the same period. Yep, that's sure a Depression.
