"Only a Union"
Edited on Thu Feb-12-09 08:53 PM by Clio the Leo
"Only a Union......"

This was the theme of Barack's speech tonight at the Lincoln Birthday dinner. There was a clear metaphor of being made of how the US .... as a union .... was able to survive and rebound from the civil war ..... comparing it to the notion that we can only overcome our current problems TOGETHER.

It was classic Obama.

My poor friends who are so opposed to bipartisanship .... I fear it will be a long 8 years for you. His determination is strong to quite strong.

4. I think he's going to keep doing that.
During the past 8 years, it's been a hell of highs and lows. As soon as something good happened to our side, the 'pubs (evil, I think) would crush it. President Obama is getting his rhythmn. He's going to hit them back within hours, and likely minutes of their attacks. What I saw tonight was pure genius (I'm pretty much a fucking idiot, so take that one with a grain of salt.)

5. YEP. The papers tomorrow will be talking about this speech more than the turncoat.
He's that damn good.

2. To be crude, he gave the 'pubs the redass.
And they desparately needed to be spanked.

3. Like Lincoln
he has a vision for a new (or perhaps renewed) America.

6. I'm with Howard Fineman --
I liked this speech better than the Inaugural. (Even if you take out the Lincoln waiting for the call to become Commerce Secretary joke.)

7. Duh ...
as my friends from the South reminded me, the Civil War ain't over.

Lincoln should have let them go, but the rich Northeners couldn't compete with rich Southerners when it came to maximizing theft-by-profit.
