Sebelius to HHS?
Sebelius to HHS?
from Daily Kos by Scout Finch

There has been a good deal of speculation as to whether Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius would run for the Senate in 2010. Many democrats were encouraged when Sebelius suddenly withdrew her name from consideration of a Cabinet post in December, thinking it might be a hint she was planning to run for the Senate in 2010. All indications are she would be the strongest democratic candidate for senate and would have a real chance to be the first democratic senator from Kansas since 1939.

Unfortunately, we may never know. After deflecting rumors for days that she was going to be tapped as the head of HHS, she abruptly cancelled her Monday morning meeting with Kansas Legislators.

If Governor Sebelius is announced as the new head of HHS, it will be a long, uphill battle for Kansas Democrats in 2010 - facing the prospect of a Governor Brownback and a lesser-known democratic candidate like Dennis Moore, KS-03.

On the upside, President Obama will have a terrific addition to his cabinet. Governor Sebelius previously served as the Kansas Insurance Commissionerand has a good understanding of the challenges we will face on the path to health care reform.

Either way, it sounds like we may know soon enough.

1. One Place that this Country Does NOT Need Gov. Sebelius...
...is back in private life after her term expires.

Either in the Senate or the Cabinet, she is someone with great brains and ability. I'd be happy to see her in either place.

PEACE!

7. Well if she were to take the position. That means she would rather be HHS than a Senator
And isn't that what matters? That shes doing what she has more passion for??

8. What is this with removing Democratic Governors from states that need them?
Edited on Fri Feb-13-09 10:43 PM by saracat
First Napolitano and now Arizona is ruined for years to come. They are currently introducing very stringent annti abortion measures without her veto pen. And now Sibelius? And both states will have trouble getting anyone to run for Senate seats with the only viable candidates gone.
