Anti-abortion ad
Edited on Sun Feb-15-09 12:18 AM by angee_is_mad
that didn't show during Superbowl.

Not sure if this has been posted before, if so sorry. Thought it was interesting.

I seem to remember that there were some Catholic bishops and priests telling people not to vote for Obama. How ironic!

Wonder how the anti-abortion repubs feel about it?

1. I think
it is a very smart ad, regardless of one's political position on this subject.

3. I think its ironic
especially seeing who sponsored the ad. There were a lot of catholic officials going hard at Obama during the campaign.

10. Yes, but there
are a lot of Catholics who voted for Obama. I'm catholic myself and It is actually very refreshing to hear my pastor pray for Obama and the success of his presidency during the petitions. Of course, prefaced by "we pray to an end for all abortions".

12. I was raised catholic
and I remember during the primary my old church, which is in a black neighborhood and at one time had a predominantly black parish, would not let us come out to remind people to vote. It is made up of mainly vietnamese, hispanics, africans and rich white people now. Even though I haven't been a practicing catholic in over 20 years, I was so disappointed by their stand.

At an Obama rally, I saw a nun who is no longer at that church. She said that church couldn't get past abortion when looking at Obama. Ironically, the Knights of Columbus was allowed to post fetus pictures on the sidewalk up to the door of the church until people started complaining about it. This was during the campaign. Talk about sending out a subliminal message.

Things are pretty bad when nuns are leaving a particular church.

4. I agree
It's one of the very few I would actually classify as "pro life" rather than "Anti-abortion".

5. Pro-Life is Anti-Abortion
right? What's the difference, other than not as polarizing sounding.

6. Pro-Life would mean
being against the death penalty
being against war and dropping bombs on innocent people
providing for those in need
among other things.
not just against a woman's right to choose.

8. There's a difference
Anti-abortion people are the sorts who are interested in legislating away a woman's rights to her own uterus. They're the sorts who want to make abortion illegal, but have no idea what to do about those women who will break that law.

Actual Pro-lifers, on the other hand, are people who simply would rather women choose to not have an abortion. They're "pro-choice", they just prefer the choice that results in live birth. They're the sort of people who do press for more funding for adoption agencies and child welfare, because they have a genuine interest in the life and well-being of these kids and their mothers.

Actual pro-lifers tend to not pipe up too much. It's the anti-abortion types that march around in the spotlight. The organization behind this ad is one that could class as "anti-abortion" but the ad itself has that pro-life tone.

2. Interesting. Less creepy than the usual.
And I'll even buy the notion that a fertilized egg has all sorts of potential. Like the potential to become human if carried to term and born.

Which is not the message they're sending. They're saying to women, "you're evil if you abort that unwanted child just because you'll have to struggle. How selfish!"

Feh.

13. Obama won the Catholic vote.
I think it's because a majority of American Catholics ignore some of the Vaticans more esoteric and regressive social policies.
