Our President and First Lady went out to dinner tonight
Edited on Sun Feb-15-09 12:34 AM by firedupdem
at Table 52 in Chicago. Michelle took home a doggy bag....like regular people do! :)

The boots are fly!

CVS! A regular person's drug store!

Sometimes, it still trips me out!

1. Awww....a Valentine's Day (or night) date!
My husband and I did the trifecta: dinner, a movie, and a band at Toad's Place (a club in CT.) My parents watched our little girls for us-they slept over there. Maybe Michelle's Momma watched Malia and Sasha? Watching someone's kids on Valentine's Day is the nicest gift someone can give- we all need a little romance now and then!

10. Well, we did not have any real Valentine's Day date in a long, long time
Not when the girls were babies/toddlers. Now that they are 3 and 4 they can sleep over someone's house without a fuss.
He did not even get you Wendy's, the best of the fast food imo!

12. LOL!! Wendy's would have been better but there isn't one nearby!
I'm just giving him a hard time. He's a good guy. Our kids are 15 and 20 and now that we can almost do what we want, we're too damn tired!

13. Ha ha! We keep saying that when our girls are grown up we will have more time
together. But we will be so worn out in 10-15 years. Maybe we will just rent a lot of movies instead!

5. Hey girl!
Who played at Toads? My Grandsons' band sometimes plays there. (it's a small college group.) They sometimes do openings for headliners. It's been years since I was there last !!

11. The Nerds. LOVE them!!! My husband plays there occasionally with his band.
Edited on Sun Feb-15-09 01:53 AM by Jennicut
Toads was packed. The Nerds (a cover band from NJ) were awesome. They dress up as all nerdy guys but they rock 80's, 90's and tunes from the 2000's. They are actually a band that has been around for 20 years. There were 3 opening bands and two of them were original bands. Good luck to your Grandson. My parents go to Toads on occasion and they are 61 so there is no age limit for anyone who hangs out there!

Saw that you are from Thomaston on your profile-I live in Terryville like right down the street on Rt 6. That is so cool.

14. We should have a DU meetup sometime!!
Edited on Sun Feb-15-09 02:34 AM by JanusAscending
My favorite place in town is Patti's Place, on the corner of Park St. (center of town) Have you ever been there, or heard of it? She's only open from 6 AM 'til 3 PM on weekdays tho'. Patti is a diehard Democrat, as well as a great person......she's also a PISTOL! It's a come as you are, plain and simple place, but serves good food, and the BEST homemade pies in CT.!!

Edited on Sun Feb-15-09 02:43 AM by Jennicut
but I am originally from Cheshire. Now that I have kids and they are getting older (they are 3 and 4) I am getting to know the places around here better. Homemade pies...yummy! Email me on DU some time when you are around in the daytime. I am home during the day all the time, I stay home with my girls but I am going back to school. Jenn is my real name! :) I have driven many times down in the middle of town when the girls are asleep in the car just to pass time while they take a little nap. There is an Opera House there, right?

30. Yes, that's right about the Opera House.
Your girls are my youngest grandsons age !! If you came down from Terryville on Rt. 6, and over the bridge into Town, you passed Patti's Place when you turned left onto Main St. where the Opera House is. I won't be able to do anything before I get my next S.S. Check (beginning of March) but I will PM you well enough ahead of time, OK? If it's not too personal, where are you going to school?
I'm looking forward to actually meeting someone that has a "face"
if you know what I mean. It's like reading a book, and imagining what all of the characters look like!:hi:

Not every day of the week, but as a treat. ;-) It'll be interesting to watch what DC restaurants the Obamas frequent. It's been a while since I've been to these two, but they might like:

Vidalia
http://www.vidaliadc.com/index1.html

and

Georgia Brown's
http://www.gbrowns.com/menus/menu.html

if in the mood for American Southern cuisine.

Hey, I'm glad you posted! ..When I saw your name, I remembered there was a little bag of sour Skittles upstairs. Think I'll zip up there and get em.

In that second picture, I'll bet First Lady Michelle was checking in on the girls with gramma.

21. I ran into them!
Well, as much as one can "run" into the President and first lady with the mass of security.

I live a few blocks away from the restaurant (that's my CVS, lol) and had headed out to meet some friends over on Clark. Madness doesn't begin to describe the area around the restaurant. I thought it was a celebrity and kept walking since I'm not much of a watcher.

Only after I got home and read the paper did I realize. Blah. Had I known, I would've tried to get some pics. Though, like I said, security.

Still, fun. I can't believe they were so close!

38. Welcome Home, Mr. President...
A friend called me to say he saw the Obamas heading into that restaurant last night...a huge crowd out front cheered and the Obamas stood around ahd shook hands before going in. I've never seen Chicago so supportive and excited about any like our new President...and that includes Michael Jordan.

Musta felt good sleeping in their own bed for once after all the circuses in the beltway. Here's hoping they come home often.
