President Barak Obama and Vice President Joe Biden are greeted at Buckley Air Force base Tuesday morning for signing the newly passed $787 billion economic stimulus bill at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. (The Denver Post | Brian Brainerd)

President Barack Obama arrived at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science in City Park at 12:05 p.m. to the cheers of hundreds of people who had turned out hoping to catch a glimpse of the president.

AURORA —

President Barack Obama has landed on Air Force One and is on his way to Denver to sign the $787 billion economic stimulus bill.

Media had gathered at Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora, prepped for the landing. Security was tight, with names submitted to the White House in advance and credentials checked hours ahead of time.

Just before Obama's plane landed, Vice President Joe Biden arrived on Air Force Two.

Air Force One was right behind. It put down on the runway and a truck brought a set of stairs to the door.

After a few moments, Obama emerged, followed by Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar.

Obama spoke to Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, Gov. Bill Ritter, and U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet, who were among those waiting to greet the president. The wind was strong, blowing hair and coats.

Obama also spoke to some of the military personnel who had gathered; some 30 airmen from the base had been chosen to serve as an honor guard of sorts as their commander-in-chief emerged.

Obama and those with him walked to where Biden was waiting. They greeted some citizens who had been chosen to welcome them.

Then everyone loaded into the black limos and SUVs for the trip to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science in City Park. There were more than 30 vehicles in the convoy.

1. Was going to pick up lunch on Colorado Blvd. until
I heard on the radio that they were already shutting streets and freeways down. So I went the other way.

We're not used to that here. It's 12:20 local time BTW.

they can land AF One there?????? IIRC the facilities were small and primitive and the tarmac suitable for, well, single engine Cessnas........(we flew up into the mountains to scatter my dad's remains from aloft)

It was Buckley Field then - I see it's Buckley AFB now. How did I miss THAT one???? And when did they change??
