We can move on! It's about half of what the economy needs, but it's a good start. Maybe now President Obama can lead the .gov to the next step. Stimulus 2.0 anyone?

3. How about tax roll back 1.0? |
|
Without getting some tax revenue to start paying down our obligations, inflation is sure to follow.

14. We may have to wait until the economy levels out a bit. |

I think that's Obama's plan too.
I too think the tax structure needs to be far more progressive than it has been since the Bush tax cuts.
But in general, with Keynesian economic policy, the key is to be countercyclical. You push .gov spending in infrastructure & financial aid for regular folks when the economy's in recession. When the economy is booming, that's when you trim the fat and pay down debts. When the economy's going great, that's when we should be raising taxes, getting rid of the deficit and trying to run a surplus, paying down debts and eliminating wasteful spending.
I think Obama's going with the easy strategy, at least to start - allowing the Bush tax cuts to expire, which IIRC, should happen in 2010. Hopefully, the economy will be in better shape at that point. Maybe Obama could restructure some of the taxes so poor and middle-class continue to receive lower taxes, and that's paid for by shifting some of the burden to the wealthy.
But Obama just doesn't have the political capital to propose a tax rollback right now. In a year or so, the deficit will be not just big, but frakking ridiculous, so there will be little choice but to kick taxes up. Hopefully, Obama will have the GOP behaving like a battered spouse, and be able to pull off some soak-the-rich tax increases.

I'm thrilled....mostly for the people who are struggling, the people who are homeless and hungry right now....and our country's future.
Sure, I'd like to get some work myself, but my category of work was discredited as "work" (art/media), so I'm not counting on it.
I found stimulus money MIGHT go toward a wetland project here that I care very much about....How cool is that? AND several of the people with whom I volunteered on the campaign have been EMPLOYED with the environmental causes trying to protect these areas...so they might have more work if this happens.
