So what happened to the color coded terrorist threat system? |
|
That was fun for about a year. Did Bush secretly abandon this initiative or is it still in effect and already an anachronism?
Even Fox News isn't broadcasting the threat level daily.

'won' the 2004 election. Didn't need to drum up fear any longer.

just seemed to go away after the election.

20. I believe that by using the alerts to terrify the country was |
|
criminal activity. Like Crying fire in a movie theatre and there is no fire.
Rumsfeld and anyone else involved should be prosecuted.

But I think Obama and Napolitano will drop it. It really only had three levels, as there was no way that we'd drop down to blue or green. I think that keeping us on "medium" at all times was as effective as raising us to orange when Bush's numbers dropped.

23. Interesting. So airports report the threat info prominently? |
|
I flew last month but don't remember ever encountering the code. Though, I am quite an oblivious person sometimes so I may have just not noticed.
I thought it was defunct. Sorry to hear it's still in use. What a farce.

17. Abandoned right after the 2004 election - when it was no longer needed |
|
It appears to some that given the correlation between Kerry gaining any momentum and the code rising, the code really reflected the political danger the Bush administration faced.
If true, Bush terrorized the country. As one who had a young college age daughter in Manhattan then, I know - even though I was skeptical, the feeling when the somber voices came on speaking of threats to Manhattan. The country was essentially Bush's battered wife - and many were too scared to flee from him.

24. I think they tried to use them a bit before the 06 elections. |
|
The realized they went to the well one too many times. Sort of like car alarms when they first came out, at first people would walk over to see if everything was o.k., then people got annoyed, then people got pissed and started keying the car.

28. Like every other failed GWB initiative, once they realized it went over terribly, they let it slide. |
|
Pretend it never happened, that they never did it.
Like floating the trial balloon that Rove was in charge of New Orleans reconstruction.
Or the Iraqi flag that had similar color and design as the Israeli flag.
