Burris admits trying to raise money for Blagojevich while being considered for Senate appointment

WTF?

By Josh Marshall

I'm wondering if Roland Burris's senate career could end up being pretty short. Now he's admitting that not only was he asked to raise money for Blago, he went ahead and did the best he could to raise money for him while he was trying to get the senate appointment.

Burris admits trying to raise money for Blagojevich while being considered for Senate appointment.

Yesterday, Sen. Roland Burris (D-IL) admitted that — contrary to his sworn testimony given to a state House impeachment panel — he did attempt to raise money for former governor Rod Blagojevich while under consideration for the vacant Senate seat. The revelations mark “the first time he has publicly said he was actively trying to raise money for Blagojevich.” Previously, Burris carefully omitted key details about his fundraising attempts:

In a letter filed Feb. 5 with his latest affidavit, Burris said, “I did not donate or help raise a single dollar for the Governor from those conversations.” But Burris didn’t reveal that he tried to put a fundraiser together for Blagojevich–and failed because of a lack of donors–before deeming it inappropriate.

1. Disaster! Always has been!
Burris is old school and he was too eager for that seat. I bet he's on those wire taps and he had to start talking. He wanted the seat and he got it.

8. I never did like that whole Burris thing..it
was like a rat trap waiting to be sprung. Blago's parting gift to the Dems.

I think you answered my question on why he's singing now?

He should have never been seated. I think he was seated because he is black and that makes it wrong.

Dayum, I wasn't supposed to post.

Anyway thanks for my hearts DU. I love you!

6. He was seated because at the time there was no legal way for him not to be seated.

Many people had objections but there was nothing that could be done. Too bad he had to live down to people's expectations.

of that Senate seat.

Her doesn't even need to fight to retain the seat. All he need do is not resign. Does anyone think that the Senate would take the time to expel him when he'll be gone in two years? Don't think so.

The country is stuck with him for the foreseeable future.

13. Well, he has shown he's prepared to hang onto it like a pitbull.
Sadly, this episode has rendered him an even more crap candidate for 2010 for the Democrats. But then again this may have hamstrung him so badly he'll get picked off easily in a primary challenge. Well, we can hope.
