My problem against Miley Cryus dealing with the Obama girls...

This pic has caused Miley hate all over YouTube and I was damned outraged when I saw her bloody actions.

There has been a lot of racist hate against Obama. And I just see Miley Cyrus as another idiot in this mix and shouldn't be allowed in the picture. She's old enough to know better but thought it was funny. I didn't find it funny and not many others did.

Now people can say...oh well everyone does it. No, no, not everyone and I personally am outraged by this.

Here are some people speaking out about this:

1. What's offensive? That she's letting some guy apparently pen fuck her? That she's drunk?
That she's hanging out with obviously stupid people, one of which has truly awful taste in interior design?

None of that should be surprising - she's a piece of trash from a trash family; of course she hangs out with tasteless garbage.

Edited on Wed Feb-18-09 11:31 AM by Rabrrrrrr
I mean, if they're pissed off that a tasteless no-talent whore-clown is gonna see the president's kids, they should have been just as pissed off when the Jonas Brothers did it.

Especially actions that are known as offensive. However, talentless definitely explains the girl among others.

You imply the new Big Dog is aroused and wants a taste?
"Hey, the kids want to have her over, not me!" That's an oft used old standby that seldom fails.

Apparently he had to remove his daughters from Miley Cyrus because her actions were just too much and it's all over the net. When his kids get on and do searches on her...those pictures of her wet, sucking lolli's out of strippers mouths, and this picture are all over.

This ain't good, but I'd attribute it to teenage stupidity 1st. I did a LOT of shit in my youth that now leaves me wondering "what the HELL was I thinking?!?"
From all I can gather, she seems a decent kid - emphasis on the last word - who did a dumbassed thing.
Bear in mind Hanlon's Razor - "never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity."
This can.

Stupid knows no age.
You just want to see evil where there is merely idiocy.
And it must be nice to have never done anything stupid in your life.

31. Evil...?
I have NEVER in my life done anything racist. First off I personally can't considering I'm multi-ethnic and get offended by a lot of stupidity.

I have major problems when people act stupid when they're old enough to know better. Hence the problems I have with so many Republicans. Plus people look up to her...so other kids out there will think, "Well if Miley does it, I can go around doing it too." ie. They are impressionable. I don't care what anyone does in their private life. But when you're a public figure putting out public images, especially participating in things that are defined as racist and offensive for anyone in particular an entire race...then I take issue. Especially when I was offended.

Good for you - seriously. I truly wish I could say the same.
Perhaps if more of us got offended & said something about it, we'd have made even more progress than we have.
And I grant you, she SHOULD be more aware of her actions, given that she's a public figure. But the gap between "should" and "is" is far too often, huge. Too, I would be concerned about the influence her 21YO "boyfriend" is having on her - that's a HUGE gap, and it sure as hell would have corrupted me when I was 16.

It is an act of monumental stupidity, sure. But I'm not personally hurt--mainly because I don't particularly feel the need to give such idiocy any power.

That said, I would understand why others might be--and I would NOT attempt to invalidate any hurt feelings they may have.

Actually you're actually saying exactly what FoxNews said in regards to Miley Cyrus' actions.

As for bashing. I'm not bashing Obama since nothing has been confirmed in regards to Miley Cyrus EVER going to the White House. That's just talk. I am however putting out my reasons why I am against Miley Cyrus going to the White House and which was brought to me on another board discussing Miley going over there. I was surprised a few people were not aware.

I was extremely offended by M. Cyrus' actions and felt that I wouldn't want that in the White House; since it would say to me that stuff like that is okay. You might think it's being sanctimonious. But that's like having someone who put on Black Face and making fun of Blacks coming to the White House. It's not bloody funny. And I would be utterly offended by that as well.

And it is pretty easy to lead people in that direction if you try and force it out of them or you WANT to find offensive content.

Obviously, there is nothing wrong with the actions in this picture.

It is sad that some people are so hypersensitive that they have to make something out of this.

If only people got this offended by the lack of proper health care in the country...

50. I admit to being hypersensitive. I have never even denied this on this board.
As a Black Woman in NYC I have faced some serious problems on a daily basis. When I lived in Europe, just more of the same. But this is not overreaching since this is something that has offended quite a bit of people. I'm not going to sue a girl over stupidity like this as some others have done.

However, I do take offense and I don't think this something very little considering it's far reaching affects. So if other little kids start doing that to emulate a person I get the feeling taht this is alright?!

There are many in the East Asian community who are offended and I find that you're marginalizing their offense. When Rosie O'Donnell made her "ching chong" comments it didn't have any far reaching consequence and people felt that it was just Rosie being Rosie and she's a comedian. However by many here that artist doing what that artist did in regards to NYPost was not something light. And I could easily see that being people hypersensitive considering that many gave a rationalized point to their position.

However, this case this is just kids being kids and it's just her being silly but no big deal, or that's your inference. I do find that she's mature enough to know better. You have even said what she did was stupid. But please don't tell me that what I'm upset about is worthless and groundless when I see it as something that given the okay once could be done by other impressionable children.

As for comparing this to proper healthcare... My whole point for joining this site during the primaries is because I DON'T HAVE HEALTHCARE and wanted Obama to win and meet others who believe that he might do something for healthcare improvement if not single-payer (and preferred his health plan over others). So please don't throw out statements as that my position is meritless when there are "far more" important things out there. I'm fully aware of the issues and the positions of politicians or I would never make educated decisions...well as much as I can make within an asymmetrically biased society. However I do have positions on other things that I do find important.

60. Yes, I am marginalizing their offense.
Because it deserves to be marginalized AND ridiculed.

If it doesn't offend the person in the picture who is obviously in on the joke, then no one else on earth has to right to be offended by it. And no, I don't think what she did was stupid. It was actually quite funny.

The more time people waste on idiotic non-issues like this, the less time they have to work on actual issues like health care. Worse, they wind up making others take them less seriously.

"I am offended by people being funny" makes people much MUCH less likely to listen to you when there is an ACTUAL issue that needs addressing.

49. Why are you so afraid to just say it? People with an issue should just say it.
Why all the hiding? Why all the excuses?

What's the cost to you to just say what you mean?

Why the need to play the let's-see-who-has-the-proper-purity game?

Considering the amount of words you've used in avoiding actually saying what you find offensive, you would have saved a lot of time and electrons if you'd just said it first.

But then, there's no game in just stating it.

Glad to hear it was just a mistake!

(I'll bet photographer Jean-Marc Bouju doesn't get an invite.)

48. My problem isn't Obama and his decisions.
He does what he wants nor would it make me think any less of him and its his decision. But from what I gathered the decision hasn't been written in stone and my statement and feeling on the issue of Miley Cyrus is that she's basically making light of a serious problem. This has nothing to do with Obama, from my side but on the girl who is supposed to be a role model dealing with just other children in general, irrespective if it's Obama daughters at all. The reason however I made my statement was because the question was posed to me as to why and it seemed that poster had no knowledge of her actions which I found interesting considering that it was mentioned.

What I get the feeling from a lot of posters is that those in the Asian community who are offended shouldn't be offended. I'm not even Asian and I'm offended and by my offense what I'm feeling is just over blown. She knew what she was doing and I just felt others most definitely should know.

54. You raise a good point. There's no telling how she might
try to make the girls feel weird or uncomfortable. I don't think she has evil intentions, but she is obviously insensitive/oblivious of how her actions are perceived.

If she wants to act like trash fine, but for fuck's sake don't document it in photos. Her fans are LITTLE GIRLS!

58. I FOUND MILEY CYRUS' ACTIONS RACIALLY OFFENSIVE TO EAST ASIANS.
Edited on Wed Feb-18-09 04:53 PM by vaberella
I don't mean to shout but to draw attention to my clarification.

I find her mocking and humiliating East Asians alongside her little friends and this does include the lone East Asian guy in the picture who doesn't give her a pass like TYT believes he does.

That being said. I make this statement because I actually thought I expressed my problem with the picture in my original post. But it was brought to my attention that I did not say what the problem directly was in my post. I thought it was clear or the videos attached might have laid claim. But my outrage with her is due to the "slanted-eye" thing she was doing in the picture which for years has been used as a way to marginalize, stereotype, humiliate and insult East Asians for decades if not centuries. Some may say she was just a stupid 16 year-old but I found it worse than that.

Hopefully this post clarifies where I stand better than my OP which, to my own fault, did not explain my position as clearly as I would have liked and that is my fault for not being more clear.

59. That doesn't even look like Miley Cyrus plus the asian guy in the picture is opening his eyes wide
like non-asian people. Should non-asians be offended by him?

Give me a break - this is ridiculous.

Is it even really her?

Edited on Wed Feb-18-09 06:12 PM by vaberella
That's exactly what I heard on those youtube thread by the teens who are in love with Miley.

First off you notice the Asian guy in the picture and say he's opening his eyes wide...it's funny though that around all the others he was still the one everyone could tell was Asian. Plus I didn't see he was opening his eyes wide. He just looked like he was taking a picture. However let's say he did widen his eyes...those who are Asians never had the power to humiliate and racially abuse people due to their eyes alone. Do you know how many Asians go through surgery just to get "double eye-lids" because they don't want to be seen as "Asian stereotypes" that Miley Cyrus engaged in. Do you know the power those sort of racist acts do. Why don't you watch the second video I posted so you can get a clue on what the problem is?!

As for the "that doesn't look like Miley Cyrus" could it be the racist intentional squinting of the eyes with her hands?!

For clarification:

http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20195785,00.html

Yeah...it so wasn't Miley. :sarcasm: Maybe in future she shouldn't stretch her eyes.

Wow - you should bone up on Asian history.

You might be quite surprised to know the long history relationship between the Japanese, Koreans, and Chinese; as well as Thai, Vietnamese, Cambodian, and others.

And how awful that history is.

And hint: quickest way to tell a Chinese from a Korean from a Japanese? The eyes.

Don't stereotype all Asians as having the same eye style.

77. Yep...that "Japanese Only" thing sure sticks out.
Interesting example you picked with the third sign down, though. First "bullet point," loosely translated:

"This shop is for people who 'love fish.' Even if you're a Japanese person, if you can't understand the following we will not allow you to enter." (emphasis added)

62. It is her. She's already released an apology....unfortunately that won't fix the
bad case of stupid she has.

This isn't the first time.

Unfortunately I think this young lady suffers from a bad case of unchecked hubris and arrogance.

67. And have you seen the "apology"?
I really wanted to stress how sorry I am if the photo of me with my friends offended anyone. I have learned a valuable lesson from this and know that sometimes my actions can be unintentionally hurtful. I know everything is a part of GOD’s ultimate plan, and mistakes happen so that eventually I will become the woman he aspires me to be.

Let's see...

"Apology" for people being offended? Check.
Denial of intent? Check.
Passive avoidance of accountability ("mistakes happen")? Check.

Though I must say that the "blame GOD" approach is a new one.

78. Agree with the very young and very stupid.
Disagree, though, that just because there's an Asian friend there, that somehow makes it acceptable.

Recall the Rick Warren controversy--if one LGBT, for instance, was OK with Obama's choice of Rick Warren, does that somehow mean that no other LGBT is allowed to be hurt or offended?
