Stocks fluctuate on details of housing plan

By TIM PARADIS, AP Business Writers Tim Paradis, Ap Business Writers – 1 hr 1 min ago

NEW YORK – Stocks fluctuated Wednesday as President Barack Obama released details of his $75 billion mortgage relief plan and investors remained uncertain about the prospects for the economy.

The plan is designed to help stabilize the housing market and reduce foreclosures. Sharp drops in housing prices and sales and rising foreclosures have caused the toughest recession in decades.

.......................

Major indexes advanced but there were more losing stocks than winners.

In midday trading, the Dow Jones industrial average rose 38.47, or 0.51 percent, to 7,591.07..................

1. Oh please. +/- 20 pts. is neutral territory.
And that's where the Dow has been most of the day.

+/- 10 pts. is not "fluctuating" and certainly not attributable to Obama's plan.

2. Average americans MUST stop believing that the stock market
has their interests in mind. It DOESN'T!!! The only time when markets go up is when RICH guys are in line to make money and when CORPORATIONS are the beneficiaries.

3. The title of that article changed THREE times during his speech...
First title was, "Stocks fall as Obama releases housing plan details," second title was, "Stocks climb as mortgage relief plan unveiled," and the third and final title was the one in your OP. Stocks went up at first and went down the second he started talking about how unscrupulous lenders and buyers would not be helped by his plan.
