Nancy Skinner is just not entertaining |

Please bring back Randi or someone else who will at least keep me awake on my drive home from work.

1. And this belongs in GD:P why? |
|
I enjoy Nancy a lot. I love Randi, too, but they're very different from each other. As Nancy pointed out on her show today, she, Randi, Thom, Ed, Stephie, etc. -- each is different and has their own strengths. It doesn't make any of them bad, just different. The world would be pretty boring if they were all the same. This all happened very suddenly and it's going to take a little time to get everything going smoothly.

I haven't even tried to keep up.
Yeah, Nancy is pretty boring. She has a soothing voice, though. Just not one I care to listen to on the drive home! Sleep driving is against the law!

Looks like they are re-emerging as a different outfit minus Randi Rhodes who is said to have some demands the new management can't meet.

I believe her dispute was with the old management.

when she was on local Detroit radio. I like her style. I still like it. I know it's a sin, but I really wasn't fond of Randi Rhodes. She reminded me too much of an overbearing cousin of mine. I'm not crying over here. :hi:

7. It's not a sin! Randi isn't everyone's cup of tea. Personally, I like how she's accurate |
|
in her discussions, bringing out much that's "lost" in MSM. And she's got a great way with RW callers who try to catch her out or disrupt the show. I'm willing to put up with some of her drama-queening to get what I think is overall good info and a good format.

11. I used to listen to Nancy on Detroit am 1310 too!! |
|
I thought she was great. I was sad when she left to run for Congress. She was great the other morning on Faux News too. They were talking about Ed Schultz being at Obama's press conference and she reminded them that Jeff Gannon, the male escort, who used to lob the softball questions to Bush!! LOL!!! They went to a commercial really fast after that one!

attempt to find some "real news". I will let you know if I ever find it. I like to see how Faux is spinning things about Obama and the Dems so I can get a good morning laugh. Nancy always kept me company in the bathroom every morning! I thought she was sweet and funny. I miss her on our am1310 but I do listen to a lot of the others that are on. Anything to support progressive radio!!

I can work with a host who doesn't spend her time yelling at callers who are trying to agree with her.
That said, Nancy needs to work a bit on the debating skills. I will keep listening because its better than listening to Comercial Rap.

We had Nancy Skinner for a couple of weeks and she is 7000% better that that piece of crap Kuby show. Its like Don SLImus lite, RW lite sidekicks, Chris & another peckerwood, also.

I like her laugh, and I enjoy her thought processes. If you really want to get stuck with a show that sucks, try driving home to Lionel, on delay from that morning; he's just as obnoxious and more irrelevant.

18. I hear ya. No one can say I didn't try, I gave her an entire week. Now |
|
I'm listening to Schultz. She seems to think her strength lies in debate, but I beg to differ. She's just not good at it. And what's with all the rightwingers? You can flip to just about any point on the AM dial, and pick up a rightwing talk show, and that goes for TV news shows as well. So why do I have to tune in to progressive radio, and hear their point of view? We already know their P.O.V., it's almost the only view we get.
Sorry to say it, but she may be good in a local niche market, but nationally syndicated? I think not.

20. She was actually one of the earliest progressive syndicated shows |
|
Edited on Wed Feb-18-09 08:56 PM by SharonRB
during the 90s and did very well. She was also on WLS for a time.
A week probably isn't enough time under the circumstances. She hasn't even had enough time to settle into a studio and get things set up properly, especially since she's been in New York all week and this is the first week it's actually been her own show. Before this week she was subbing for Randi and had no idea this was going to happen. Give her some time to settle back in to doing a regular show of her own again.
Too many people miss the point of having the rightwingers on. When they're on their own stations, they can say whatever they want with nobody to argue against them. Nancy has them on to prove them wrong and hang them with their own words. As she says, she's the "Fairness Doctrine Network." We need to hear both sides and she does that with a progressive viewpoint. When both sides are on something like Fox, they intentionally outnumber us and just shout over us.
As more people tune in and hear both sides being represented, it will attract more and more listeners than just a one-sided show like Randi's does. Don't get me wrong, I love Randi, but I do see where she can turn a lot of people off.

25. How is she going to sway Station Owners to carry her show |
|
When she's says she is on the "Fairness Doctrine Network"? Of course we need to hear both sides, but station owners don't want to hear the words "fairness doctrine" being promoted on their stations.

27. I think changes will be coming with the new FCC |
|
She'll be ready for them. If the ownership rules change back to what they used to be, which they should since there's been too much consolidation, she can fit into any lineup.

|
I can't stand Lionel, and it only took me about an hour to know that. Nancy's probably a great person, but she's no Randi, and she's going to find that a lot of us are angry that she was chosen to fill a spot, left vacant by someone who could rip a Repub to shreds in the blink of an eye. There's a reason that some liberals are favored guests for the rightwing shows...Alan Colmes comes to mind. I just find her weak.

I think it may take her some time to find her own footing with such a new show, especially being thrown into it like this...but that's pretty normal.
