Poll question: Cartoon: Racist or not Racist

This cartoon has four gunshot wounds depicted, not two as claimed elsewhere. It is also a reference to this actual picture of a chimp attacking a police car as shown here:

So, I'm posting a poll to get a feel for weather or not majority DU is really as insane as it sometimes appears in runaway threads...

4. The fact that some elements of the cartoon is consistent with the actual

event is completely and totally irrelevent.

The choice of using a simian image to represent an African American is a particularly hurtful and very prominent in American history. If the cartoonist had reproduced the image exactly as your photo it would still be irrelevent.

Now whether or not they really in the heart of hearts intended to make that connection we can put aside for a minute. They absolutely knew that many of their readers in New York would make that connection. If they did not then the cartoonist should find another career.

Much more damning is the editor. Either he saw it and no warning light went off or the warning light went off and they decided it would be great fun anyway. In the first case they are astonishingly ignorant of the environment they publish in or the second case they really are monsters and wanted to stir the shit up to sell some papers.

Brack Obama didn't write the fucking bill. Congress did.

I'm dreading the next eight years of having to put up with people seeing OMGRACIST!!!1 everywhere they look anytime someone disagrees with Democrats on anything. :(

15. And exactly how are the GOP selling it?
As the congress' bill or Obamas bill?

The text even points to _one_ person. There can be little doubt as to whom that is directed. Racist or not.

5. That chimp obviously represents Obama- no question about it
and the "Beware of Dog" sign is obviously referencing turning dogs on blacks in the Old South, and the two bullet holes in the chimp's chest obviously represent the eye holes in a Klansman's hood.

Oh yeah, and while we're at it, that New Yorker cartoonist from last summer obviously thought the Obamas really were flag burning, militant terrorists.

How do I know these things to be true? Well, they're... they're just obvious, dammit! And if they aren't obvious to you, you're obviously lying. Either that, or you're an apologist for racists.

Beware of dog... kind of like the original picture the whole cartoon is modeled from?

I'm the first person to agree that DU frequently goes batshit crazy for no particular reason, but this is a VERY GOOD fucking reason.

17. I didn't vote in the poll for a simple reason....
...and that is because it won't be long before the next hot button issue arrives, this will be forgotten, or lose it's place of importance, and we'll have a brand new set of racists, anti-semites, etc. to wail on which will last until their is another to take it's place. Pretty much all of the racists that were "discovered" during the primaries are still here and no longer racists. Pretty much all of the homophobes that were "exposed" during the Rick Warren outrage are still here, and no longer homophobes, or so it seems by the lack of accusations that were so prominent when it was a hot button issue. Fighting the good fight is all well and good, but simple observation reveals that much of the outrage expressed here on certain issues can be most fleeting at best, and re-directed at the drop of a hat. Thanks.

18. Dumb, really dumb
My first reaction to the cartoon was how stupid and pointless it was, as well as violent. I didn't see the racist element personally, but I can see how some people did.
