Oh Oh President Obama thanks Canadians who came over the border to campaign for him. |
|
Edited on Thu Feb-19-09 03:45 PM by Better Believe It
I wish President Obama hadn't said that at the joint news conference just held.
Has Obama given the Republicans, the mass media and right-wingers a hammer to beat him with, claiming "foreign" Canadian interference in U.S. elections?
I'm just a bit worried about that comment and how the mass media may go to town on it.
They hate "liberal" Canada and their health care system.
President Obama said: "I want to thank some of the Canadians who came over the border to campaign for me during the election.
It was much appreciated."
Need I worry or will this just pass with little attention?

If not this statement there would be something else. I have given up listening to the crazy Rethuglicans in the media. It is not good for the brain or the heart. Put your worries on a shelf and don't look back!
Edited to add that our Repiglicans have been schooling Canadian Repiglicans for years. One minute of research will show that the Canadian thugs did all that they could for Grandpa McCain!

11. We had several help out at the Plymouth NH Dem headquarters. |
|
I'll add my thanks to President Obama's.
And no, it wasn't any secret and Them What Be In Charge were uncommonly careful about elections laws and campaign guidelines.
If they howl about it, fine. When they come up with the law that was broken, then maybe it's a worry.

14. So? Foreign nationals can campaign, but cannot donate money. |
|
Those are the rules. The Obama campaign violated no laws by allowing foreign nationals to campaign for them, as I'm sure many foreign nationals around the country also did for McCain.

And one of the guys from Duran Duran. Both of those guys are British.
It's not the slightest bit unusual to have foreigners participate in a campaign. Now VOTING is an entirely different matter... :)

donate. I tried to donate but was told I could not. Quite a few people from here campaigned for President Obama during and after the primaries.

as the English and Irish and I don't know who else. It was in their papers, it was in our papers. They weren't US citizens but that didn't prevent them from campaigning. They did it during the election cycle and it was widely reported and no one cared.

30. Learn the difference about what? |
|
Are you claiming that I don't know difference between handing out a campaign flyer and making a financial contribution to a candidate?
DU campaigned for President Obama. One of the forms that campaigning took was soliciting financial contributions for Obama's campaign. So it's your position that raising funds for or giving money to an election campaign is not campaigning? That's a novel idea!
In any case, it's good to hear that foreign nationals are free to campaign for any candidate in the United States with the exception of making financial contributions and there was no need to engage in a smart ass remark "learn the difference" to make your point.

There's no law against Canadians campaigning for a Republican.
It just pisses them off that no Canadian WOULD campaign for a Republican.
