"Epitomized by the President Himself"
Edited on Fri Feb-20-09 01:51 AM by Clio the Leo
Listening to Canadian PM Harper's presser with the President today, I am moved to tears by his remarks.

It is true that our economies are linked ..... our economic woes become their economic woes. When talking about the recession, he did not say, "your recession" he simply said "the recession" making it clear that it was a shared burden.

No doubt we are in large part responsible for worsening their economy. As if we hadn't pissed on the world enough at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo, by our own greed and negligence, we have made things harder for people everywhere. The Canadians could have been angry with us. Mr. Harper could have blessed Barack out because of the financial and literal stress America is putting on the Canadian people.

But he didn't. As crowds who had waited for hours stood in the snow and cheered. Mr. Harper talked about the US-Canadian relationship as being ....

built on our shared values — freedom, democracy and equality of opportunity, epitomized by the president himself,"

Barack Obama is the living embodiment of what is GOOD about this country. His very life represents the greatness that we can achieve. The hope of the immigrant meeting the oxymoron that is the unity in our diversity. The class. The strength. The ability to rise above it all.

All of the hard work we did over the last few months. All of the phone calls, the door knocking, the talking to our friends and coworkers.

Because of our hard work and using this man as the vehicle, we are able to hold our collective head high, even in spite of the damage we may have done.

We did a good thing my friends. We did a good thing.

"We did a good thing my friends. We did a good thing."

Yes, and it's a fantastic message to send the world, and a good beginning to the needed work we all need to do to truly become one people. The united people of the world.
