Oh oh, does this make him the "anti-christ?": Obama beats out Jesus as America's hero
Of course I am being funny but you and I both know that SOMEONE will look at this article/headline and sincerely say to someone "see I told you he was the anti-christ."

Obama beats out Jesus as America's hero
SUN-TIMES STAFF

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Americans named President Obama as their No. 1 hero, followed by Jesus Christ and Martin Luther King, in a new Harris poll.

Others in the top 10, in descending order, were Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush, Abraham Lincoln, John McCain, John F. Kennedy, Chesley Sullenberger and Mother Teresa.

People were asked whom they admired enough to call their heroes. Those surveyed were not shown a list of people to choose from. The Harris Poll was conducted online among a sample of 2,634 U.S. adults by Harris Interactive.

This question was first asked in a Harris Poll in 2001. In that survey Jesus Christ was the hero mentioned most often, followed by Martin Luther King, Colin Powell, John F. Kennedy and Mother Teresa.

1. Didn't the Beatles get in trouble some years ago for claiming to be bigger than Jesus?

Sadly, Reagan and Bush are still on the list, but at least they're below Jesus.

4. Lennon anyway
He was making a comment on the absurdity of Beatlemania and said the Beatles were more popular than Jesus Christ at that time. Yes there were fundies even back then.

2. Oh Lord! I can just hear those jack-leg fundy preachers now
Sunday morning will be a free-for-all.

The thing of it is, though, Jesus would be cool with it. He'd probably say something like "Bummer -- missed it by 1 vote. Oh well, win some/lose some. I got stuff to do." What I mean is, I just don't see this as an issue for Jesus.

It's the fundies who get their panties in a bunch over all this. I'll have to ask my fundy cousin what her preacher has to say Sunday.

Reagan, as we all know, is the REAL GOP messiah.

9. every picture i have ever seen of him he looks like a white american though.
which i find amusing, as wouldn't he look like people who live in the region he was born? he would look like a middle east person, wouldn't he? so would mary and joseph. so if he were around today, he would be derided and treated like a terrorist probably. but i digress.

11. You are exactly right. I have also read that men during that time
did not wear beards nor did they have long hair. Jesus, if he existed at all, would have looked like your typical middle eastern.

Israel in 4 B.C. had no mass communication.

The harris interactive poll is anything but scientific. It has no validity, and I'm not sure why they even ran such a stupid poll topic. Buddha is clearly above Jesus. Duh.
