I hadn't noticed this being discussed all day (Clinton's report card on Obama)
http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5hJRVFMW5fnzOXuRlnW6rEC0oV37Q

Bill says Obama is doing a great job, "BUT" he (Obama) should be more positive at the END of his speeches to assure the american people that we are the greatest country in the world and we will come thru this and be alright.

Bill, bill, bill, you are no longer the prez., it's not your call.

Let Barack and your wife Hillary shine this time. It's not all about you.

1. Every interview I've heard, Clinton has said "He doesn't need MAH advice, he's doin' jus' FAHN."
He's been nothing short of effusive and fulsome in his praise for Obama. For all we know, that comment could have been in response to "If you had to come up with something not positive to say, what would it be?"

So, I'd look at how those remarks were edited before you "Bill, Bill, Bill" President Clinton. And since it's ABC doing the interview, I'd probably want to look at the shit they left on the cutting room floor as well.

3. The editing and snippet WERE in context and crystal clear....
when I saw the audio/video this morning.

Maybe it's a good thing that a former dem president goes on the airwaves and critiques the new dem prez, or then again maybe not.

I find it amazing that the Rupublicans ... are now criticizing him...if I were in his position today, I'd be doing what he's doing.

You just have a bug up your ass about Bill Clinton. Bill is Obama's cheerleader. They're on the same team. Get over it.

Yeah sure, what, since a few short months ago in North Carolina? It's all absolutely ridiculous. Bill needs to STFU NOW.

Gee, stuff that hate somewhere--it's not good to have it eating at you like that.

Bill's just fine. After all, his people populate Obama's cabinet.

Edited on Fri Feb-20-09 05:57 PM by Beacool
He's the only twice elected Democratic president since FDR and he can very well say anything that he pleases.

Besides, he's absolutely right. This constant talk of doom and gloom is not very helpful in assuaging the market's jittery nerves. The market continues in free fall despite the signing of the stimulus package.

2. I do not know if Bill Clinton made a remark about being positive
but if he did, he was right. Obama needs to be more positive in his speeches. Reagan was a master at giving positive speeches. People do not want gloom and doom every day. Obama can tell the truth about our problems and then be positive with a fix.

39. Wow, you've had a great big slug of the Divide and Conquer koolaid, haven't you?
Bill Clinton SUPPORTS Barack Obama. He thinks he's doing a WONDERFUL job as President. He's enthused about his administration and doesn't think he needs any advice from Bill, because he's doing a great job. In fact, in a recent CNN interview, Clinton criticized....HIMSELF: http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/02/16/bill.clinton.qanda/index.html

You are grabbing on to a comment out of context, and hating on the man as a consequence--exactly as the right wants you to do. They're only happy when we're not united, and you're obliging them.

You've just been spun by the right. How does it feel?

31. Well...among all 6 billion people living today
Who is a greater expert on being POTUS than Bill Clinton?

I couldn't think of one.

President Obama, I would think, has aspirations of holding that title some day, but it will be at least eight more years until we can sit in his judgment.

8. All it said on the ABC corporate media news crawler was
"Former President Clinton says (*President) Obama should be more positive."

I don't recall for certain whether the news crawler addressed President Obama as President or not but it said nothing about former President Clinton stating that President Obama was doing a great job.

Of course, Democratic Leaders should expect and be aware that the corporate media will only promote the negative, while eschewing any positive remarks when it comes to the current Democratic Administration and for that matter probably the Democratic controlled Congress as well.

10. Clinton's advice is very good
and he has been nothing but supportive of President Obama. This piece of advice should probably been delivered in a private conversation as opposed to a public interview... but it is nonetheless very good advice.

and he is the one who could get us through this. (Never mind he played a major role in creating this mess).

Yeah, let Obama tell people how great it's going to be. Then when things get worse the Clintonites and Republicans can pile on Obama and the Clintons can come to the rescue.

33. I agree that his advice was good - but to be affective that advise had to be private
Why? If Obama now ends a talk with words of the sort that Bill was speaking of - even if he already wrote them yesterday, they will now ring hallow. People would say he is saying them for affect and doesn't really believe it. He should have just stopped with the positives in public.

The sad thing is that Obama HAS made exactly that kind of comment - and people not listening may now see a change where there was none - and write it off as just political.

But one of the nice things about Obama, he has such a cool manner he may be able to subtly start sounding a little more positive without so obvious a connection to Clinton's advice.

Even though he was complimentary, he really should refrain from offering unsolicited advice. If he has advise he should offer it privately.

22. He gave Obama an 'A'.
I think he can throw a bit of advice on top of that kind of praise. He is, after all, speaking from 8 years experience that very few have.

Pretty sure Obama would be pretty happy with an 'A' grade from someone with Pres. Clinton's expertise.

29. I think Bill is wrong
I think the Obama team understands that as long as Americans are worried, they'll be open to change. If they are not worried, they will be against change, and Obama's agenda is far greater than just the stimulus bill.

Obama and his people have been doing a superb job.
