12 threads about the damn cartoon...
YES.
It's BAD.
It's RACIST.
It's OFFENSIVE.
We get it.
Now can we get on to fixing the economy? So we have the stim pack; we hove the foreclosure initiative; what next?

3. 12: I seem to have 30 or more under my "hidden threads" category
Edited on Fri Feb-20-09 06:54 PM by Numba6
I ignored them until the so-called "progressives" started justifying the cartoon & racism, then I had to respond to a few threads

For what it's worth:

4. Fixing the economy will become more difficult if President Obama's authority
is undermined because of....dare I say the word... racism.

However I sort of agree with your sentiments and will make this my last post on the racism subject unless in response to a counter post against one of mine.

5. Which it won't be...
If his authority were going to be undercut by racism, wouldn't that have shown up sooner?
Like, maybe last November 4th?
His authority is firm and gaining ground, if the polls are to be believed.

I know this is as ugly as possible, but it's what they are doing.

18. I believe the corporate media propaganda offensive against President Obama's authority
Edited on Fri Feb-20-09 07:21 PM by Uncle Joe
has just begun.

They started by almost exclusively hosting Republicans trashing the stimulus bill before it was passed and according to their polls, public support dropped somewhat along with President Obama's ratings. Hardly no Democrats were given air time.

Next up was the racism angle with the above mentioned cartoon.

Yesterday and today they gave air time to some loony tune, I've got mine ideologue on the Chicago Mercantile Trade calling for a tea party because of the housing stimulus.

This morning on an ABC corporate media news crawler they skipped any mention of former President Clinton stating that President Obama was doing a great job which I read on a thread here and mentioned only that Clinton said Obama should be more positive.

The way I see it, the corporate media are trying in all ways great and small to erode President Obama's authority and he's only been in office for a few weeks.

I also believe if we don't stay on the offensive, the corporate media will be successful in brain washing the American People and in 2010, the Democrats will pay the price.

These threads may seem repetitive at times but we don't have the mass audience of television and people log in at different times of the day. In conclusion I believe this allows us to thoroughly hash out every angle of a given topic in depth, while also giving maximum exposure.

9. We'd better...
This is EXACTLY the sort of distraction the Rethugs love - it draws our attention away from fixing the economy, that scumsucker Rove trying to cut a deal, etc.

We've got bigger fish to fry.

10. Oh, please. The Republics manipulate. They don't care WHAT they manipulate.
If it's not this, it will be something else. That's exactly how we lose battles, by avoiding them.

And, apparently, you have no idea how offensive the right wing figuring our president as an ape and shooting him is to many people.

At some point you just have to accept that race is what the Republics will use for the next 8 years and you need to find a way to deal with it.

16. Fine -
Who cares about the economy? Who cares about education? Who give a rip about health care?
Let's fight where the Rethugs want us to fight, instead.
Good way to lose. That's exactly how they've been beating us for damn near 40 years - we let THEM pick our battles.

26. Fight them at every turn.
Our reps in the House and Senate battle them daily. Obama has the policies covered.

Who is saying ignore everything else? We can take them on in each arena and win.

14. And YOU need to figure out that...
They'll use it as long as it's EFFECTIVE.
As long as they can distract us and draw attention away from the bigger, more vital issues, we ALL lose.
You're insisting on fighting the fight the other guy wants you to have - THAT'S the recipe for losing.
You avoid the battles that don't advance you toward your objective - basic warfare, page 7.

Edited on Fri Feb-20-09 07:10 PM by iamthebandfanman
and like any lonely sad person with fear and hatred in the heart, they demand attention.. good or bad, doesnt matter... theyll take any, so long as all eyes are on them.

i tend to think that was the intention of the cartoon. he knew itd make waves.

i mean, do people think this guy isnt gonna make more cartoons?

hell, id imagine more people will look at them now just to look for his stupidity.

dont get me wrong, we are long over do the conversation of race and why we all continue to voluntarily seperate ourselves... but i just dont think some bigot who likes to draw is a very good jumping off point. if it were, im pretty sure we'd have already had the discussion.

24. and a thread that runs through all right wing cartoons/humor
Edited on Fri Feb-20-09 07:35 PM by SoCalDem
NOT EVEN FUNNY....

Their lame attempts at humor are so far afield, that most people cannot even agree on what the cartoon is "trying to say".. They are so busy trying to "stick it to someone", and build in deniability, that their work ends up, vague, humorlous, tasteless and quite inane.

The cartoon and the SC governor refusing the stimulus aid is only the tip of the iceberg, unfortunately.
