Rate 'em - best to least - Rachel, Keith, Schuster, Rick Sanchez, Tweety, AC |
|
(that's my order in the OP)
It'll be interesting to see how this turns out.

3. Sanchez is pretty good. He's kind of a doof, but he goes after pretty controversial topics. |
|
He's the only one I've seen that has had on Malloy and Amy Goodman as guests in his panels. (not at the same time - but you gotta admit - that's pretty good)

I've read about some zingers he's thrown.
Add Stewart, Colbert, Letterman? Maher? Tough. :)

7. Rachel Can Be A Debbie Downer - Is There A RW Version? Not really |
|
Is Rachel supportive of anything? Is she positive about anything? She was predicting Obama would lose the general election to McCain. I love Maddow's intelligence, but I need to take a shot of bourbon after watching Maddow, because she is so pessimistic.
Keith is a bit bombastic, but he is funny. Tweety is a bit moody. Haven't seen Schuster or Sanchez enough to comment. Also, AC is pretty decent and even keel.

But now I am loving her interviews.

He's moody but at least that makes him unpredictable and therefore more interesting to watch. He calls it as he sees it without trying to conform to somebody's ideology. For the time being, he's an Obama supporter. If he turns against him, I might change my mind!
I like how he calls people out on their BS. Seems like Keith mainly has on people who agree with him: Richard Wolfe, Howard Fineman, Jon Turley, etc. Like talking into a mirror.

8. I've got to admit that I don't with even any remote regularity watch any of them. |
|
So I cannot give a rating. I do read the worship of some of them here, but they are really preaching to a choir that shouts "AMEN!", except Tweety gets his butt burned sometimes and there are a couple of others who I don't know at all.

I hate rating people, especially in this case because I like all of them that I've seen. I especially hate to put AC that far down--it's only because I like the others so much. I watched a little bit of CNN before the inauguration, when they were all sitting on the roof of the Newseum freezing, and someone pulled out a bag of things that Ellen DeGeneres had sent them--I think it was hats, gloves, and this huge long giant scarf that looked hand-knitted, and it was really obvious that nobody wanted to put it on... finally Anderson Cooper did the gentlemanly thing and wound it around his neck. He only took it off for the last few minutes of that hour, when they were about to talk about something serious and it would have looked inappropriate for him to be wearing a great big enormous scarf.
I've always thought he was a hard worker who could have lived off his trust fund but chose not to, a good person (Katrina), and a sweet guy (that goofy laugh), and the scarf thing made me a fan for life.

Schuster is currently (you never know when it will change) covering (surprise, surprise) NEWS. And I love how he's bringing a progressive blogger on everyday.
KO and Rachel get to cute for me (yes, Schuster does too but not that much)
I want a BBC type news show.

Jim Lehrer, Bill Moyers, Gwen Ifil, Judy Woodruff, Martin Savidge, then Keith, Rachael, Tweety. :) Honorable mention goes to Katie Couric. Charlie Gibson is a kiss-up and so is Brian Williams!
I must say that when there is breaking news, Chris Matthews can be surprisingly good as a journalist. Keith too. They drop all the schtick and get right into the news and ask very intelligent questions and show a good amount of background knowledge about a lot of things. I like their coverage of events like the State of the Union and election night too. If only they would play it a little more straight at other times.
I always get the feeling that Keith in particular is pained at having to do all the stand-up comic stuff and funny bits like Oddball. I think he'd really like to be another Edward R. Murrow but finds himself stuck in this genre.
