Don't Scoff! It is the Largest Tax Cut to the most Americans Ever; and Fastest ever to take effect
Edited on Sun Feb-22-09 12:00 AM by FrenchieCat
Sure for some Americans, $65.00 per month is nothing, indeed, some of these lucky Americans laugh at it or scoff at the sum. But for millions of other Americans, those who rarely have anything extra left at the end of every month, the additional income they will receive might mean an extra tank a gas, a few meals, a twice a month movie outing that had to be cutback on, a cable bill, a new coat or a pair of shoes or two.

What the tax cut monthly sum really is, is not enough to save, but enough to spend. Enough to multiply $65 times millions of American households who will have $65 per month in additional disposable income monthly, every month.

Even the unemployed who collect benefits will get a share.
Even the self Employed will have to pay less in estimated taxes.

So what it really is, is a stimulus to the economy.....an economy that really needs it.

Of course, if you want to look at it from a standpoint of only yourself and how you personally benefit and not at anything else, then perhaps you voted for the wrong person. The "Me" party was represented by the Republicans, last I checked....and of course, they will never admit that it was a Democratic President who passed the largest tax cut in American History, to more people than ever in history.

Now, if you want to promote the Republicans, keep scoffing...but if you want to help all of us, then repeat after me..... "This is the largest tax cut to the most Americans passed and enacted faster than ever in the history of this country". ;)

2. Less the snark...
I agree with you totally. I grew up with a single mother on welfare and though $65/month was a lot more 20 years ago, it still will have a meaningful impact on many families. Even for my boyfriend and I, who have a gross combined income of $125,000, it will mean $130 each month that will get spent on movies, books, stuff for our dog, things that will keep other people in their jobs. And for those who are not as well-off as we are, it will mean what you said.

4. media does a great job...
making sure the truth about taxes is obscured or ignored. One of the amazing features of the presidential campaign was that the media kept parroting the "lower taxes Republicans" meme even though 80% of taxpayers would have gotten lower tax bills with the Obama plan compared to the McCain plan.

5. 65 dollars a month-
Edited on Sun Feb-22-09 12:07 AM by Mother Of Four
What we got at the store today-

Pork roast on sale (9 lbs- local store with a great meat dept)
Pack of 36 eggs -
Gallon 2% milk
Whole wheat bread, 2 loaves
Salad fixings
Lunch meat x2
Sliced cheese x2
Sandwich spread
Dish detergent
Paper towels
10 lb pack chicken leg quarters
2 boxes Oatmeal (to mix with quick oats for the kids)
Fabric freshener

Grand total- 52.34

65 dollars a month is the difference between going hungry between paychecks and eating well.

Don't worry I'm not scoffing at all. Those who are, not sure why they are.

(Edit...whoops put Dish Detergent in there twice)

My husband lost his job...got another one at about 20K less per year...after 7 months they just made everybody take a 10% paycut. Hell yeah, I can use 65 bucks monthly!

7. I am going to quit Netflix. I will tell them that I can't afford to be
a member until I get my tax cut.

We should make a point of telling businesses that we are spending our tax cut money at their businesses. Perhaps they will appreciate the tax cut.

8. yet did they scoff at a $300 all at once check, for one year
which is less than half what the total for a year of Obama's plan gives people.

Logic doesn't seem to be prevailing here, either, unfortunately.

9. The $300 you are talking about went to everyone, even those who didn't need it
but had paid income taxes.....

the current tax cuts are limited to those who make under $75,000 per year, and includes the working poor.

That will make a difference as the folks above will spend their tax cuts on small things; things that make the economy go round.

In addition, if you hadn't noticed, the economy is currently falling apart, and the Government is already in dire straits due to that last stimulus that folks who didn't need saved or put into the stock market and lost, and due to the trillion dollar Iraq war that we didn't have to fight.

14. Where do they get the figure of $13.00 a week.
Is this a straight across the board tax cut that will give everyone the same amount - $13.00.

Or is this an estimate based on the middle-class pay scale, and if so then what is defined as middle-class?

15. $65 is so small, the snarky can't be bothered to bend over & pick it up
Edited on Sun Feb-22-09 12:52 PM by Numba6
I've been unemplyed for quite some time, my retirement is down the tubes (& I'm near having to convert what's left to cash & take th huge tax loss anyway, just to live on)

As I said here, in all seriousness, if the snarky want to put their money where their mouth is, PLEASE pm me & I will send you my address so you can send it to someone who can use it
