Obama fantasy art. (nudes on a unicorn)
Edited on Sun Feb-22-09 07:48 AM by Rebellious Republica
This artist is strange, from what I could find out about him. He is known for his religious art, has a very conservative cartoon on the internet, and has lots of conservative links. I am not sure what he is trying to say with these works. He is the guy that did the pancakes on Sarah Palins head. Which I have seen posted here before during the campaign. Does anyone know more about the artist, I have researched what I could and just could not figure this guy out.

On edit: His name is Dan Lacey

It says the one below is a work in progress (not yet finished), it is supposed to be a nude of Barrack Obama on a Unicorn battling a nude Sarah Palin on a Moose.

1. I am fascinated by ANY art inspired by the President....
Edited on Sun Feb-22-09 08:13 AM by Clio the Leo
.... the more common and folksey the better.

That includes the kind that I have to partially cover with my hand (and then immediately yank back my hand when I realize what it's touching lol.)

That one of him and Palin is well, very Armagheddony. :)

Anyway, this notion that he's able to inspire people .... from graffiti artist to sushi rollers to .... everyone ..... it's a beautiful thing.

2. I like your perspective on the subject, I had no knowledge about
Edited on Sun Feb-22-09 08:33 AM by Rebellious Republica
the artist when I first saw the top unicorn painting. I was completely drawn to it, like a moth to a light. I saw it as a positive, strong and moving piece that made me want to find out more about it. I researched on line and found more Obama unicorn art by the artist. With each piece I became more inspired and saw them all in a positive light. So I began to research the artist because I was so moved I thought I might try to buy one or if he had any works like them for sale. As I dug a little deeper I found out more about him and was rather confused by his political and religious ideology. It was right out of bizzaro world and totally opposite of what I had expected. I still like them a lot because of my ignorance and having no knowledge of the artist at my first viewing of these pieces. How they made me feel on a deep (positive) emotional level. Thanks for the feed back, I am feeling a little less confused and helps to put it in perspective for me.

is the Jib Jab cartoon from election season, portraying him as wide-eyed, naive and wanting a peaceful fairytale world full of hope and unicorns....

15. Yep, it's definitely the butter.
I have never been able to look at butter the same since I saw the Marlon Brando movie Last Tango in Paris.

Though, the oozing syrup is not bad either.

Is it getting hot in here or is it just me?

16. Yes, the last one I had seen around here at DU during the campaign
Edited on Sun Feb-22-09 05:09 PM by Rebellious Republica
but did not know the artist or make the conection until I started to do the research on the other one just recently. I agree, it had me laughing pretty hard. I believe it comes from Oolong (July 28, 1994 – January 7, 2003) (also known as the Pancake Rabbit), named after the oolong variety of tea, was the name of a domestic rabbit owned by photographer Hironori Akutagawa, of Hokkaidō, Japan. The rabbit was famous for its ability to balance a variety of objects on his head.

Oolong was a well known Internet phenomenon between 2001 and 2003, through a large number of photographs posted by Akutagawa on his website. The site featured "photo journeys" of the domestic rabbit traveling with his master through the house, yard, and other locations. The website became known to a wider audience when it was covered in 2001 by Syberpunk, a site which focuses on odd things in Japanese culture.<1>

Oolong attracted attention because Akutagawa had trained the rabbit to balance objects on his head, an art called "Head Performance" by his owner.<2> The first object balanced on Oolong's head was a 35mm film canister on 25 May 1999.<3> Soon, Akutagawa had the rabbit balance a variety of things on his head, including tea cups, bread, fruit, pancakes (actually dorayaki), and even a rabbit skull. Although most reactions on the internet were positive, there were some complaints by people who believed the practice to be cruel to animals. In response, Akutagawa wrote in a message to website visitors: "Some visitors have written me e-mails, accusing me of being cruel to my rabbit and that I am abusing my pet. This was never my intention when I included numerous links to photographs, showing Oolong's unique ability to hold objects on his head. This is not a site to mock rabbits, or demonstrate animal abuse.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oolong_(rabbit)

The artist (Dan Lacey) of the paintings, as I found out painted over photographs and has a painting with the rabbit and pancakes stacked on his head. I also found out that it is believed that is where he came up with the idea for pancakes on things.

19. Wow, I am humbled by your presence, I stand corrected sir.
I can not remember where I had read that, I have visited so many sites looking up your works and history. Its hard to say where I read that, I hope at least the rest of my information was accurate.
I like your style very much, it provokes thought and inspires the imagination. BTW, I am now the proud owner of a Barack Obama "Nude On A Unicorn Victory Print" via your website, welcome to DU, I saw by your your pseudonym on Ebay when you were auctioning Pancake Pastoral" you go buy freeperdan, I guess we can figure out where that might come from. Your art crosses political boundaries and I can respect that, thanks for the reply, I am honored.

daily. I will probably get flamed for having a civilized conversation with a RW conservative by some of the other more zealous DU'ers here. My pseudonym already draws mistrust and ire by some here, its something in my name that freaks people out here. Yes to answer the question that must be on your mind, I am a former republican, crossed over in 2002 having lived under the arrogant and hypocritical administration of Jeb Bush. I also lost a ton of money due to the S&L failures thanks to Neil Bush in the the 80's, so the Bush Name has never been a favorite of mine. I was what used to be called a Rockefeller Republican. The Neoconservative movement hi-jacked the party and were nothing more than a bunch of corporatist fascists calling themselves Republicans in my opinion. Thats the readers digest version of my story, so I have been here for quite a few years, and finding my thinking to be more in line with those posting here. Keep up the good work, damn shame someone with so much talent is on the other side!;)

24. I'm not on the other side
If you read through my fan forums you'll see that I abandoned partisan politics years ago. Forums to the hard right or left are dull echo chambers. Nothing much creative or original comes out of either, because the posters rely upon the person who posted before them to tell them how to think.

26. I will do that, I must admit I have not taken the time to do so.
It shows in your works, thats why my confusion in my original posts and what I had researched. It just did not add up, thanks for the clarification. I say I must agree with you about people acting like sheep sometimes. By the way Ibus 1579 says they are looking forward to the arrival of the "Pancake Pastoral" it has a special place waiting for it down here in Florida! ;)
