We need to demand that those states where the governors don't want Stim money GET NOTHING
It's obvious political posturing on the governor's standpoints. They absolutely know that the state officials will override their political posturing.

So let's call their bluff. They have 24 hours to either get the money and come begging to Obama for the cash or they GET NOTHING.

The people of Louisiana, South Carolina, Alaska, Texas, Mississippi and wherever else would like to know: whose side are these governors on?

Door Number One, the Stim... or political suicide... let's see it, governors.

1. To prove a point? I disagree. Their constituents need that money
and will hopefully recognize what idjits they have in office.

13. They would bend like cheap plastic toys if some heat was applied
I would think they would backpeddle very quickly if they saw the pitchforks banging on their mansions.

2. Ouch! I hope our new guv (Brewer) takes the money.
But to deny it to Arizona because of her won't hurt her. It will hurt the poor and unemployed like me in this state.

3. The sad thing is, the people who need it the most are probably in those states
All for politics.. it is a miserable state of affairs when a governor would keep funding for recovery from his state for the pat on the head from Rush Limbaugh and Hannity..but there you have it..

8. Exactly .... perhaps I should go outside and take their pictures...
... better yet, I'll bring them INSIDE and let them explain how they're having to choose between food and electricity.

I am SOOOO sick of this notion. The nation's impoverished are not to be used as political bargaining chips.

4. If those Governors don't get voted out of office for attempting
to screw their constituents something is really wrong!

5. What a wonderful fucking idea

You don't seem to get it, Gov Sanford is a foaming at the mouth libertarian, drowning government in the bathtub is his wetdream. He's got national office on his mind and this stand is gold to that wing of the Republicans, it insures his base.

In the meantime the unemployed of SC might like to have a little talk with you.....

6. I proposed something like that myself a while back butthe more I think about it
the less I like the idea. For example, can you imagine being a Red State Democrat who did everything in your power to get a Democratic governor but failed, and furthermore worked hard for Obama but didn't carry your state and now you're in a position where the stimulus money could really help you personally, and in fact the stimulus is partly composed of your tax dollars, but because of your idiot governor you won't get help, and neither will the other 40% of the people in your state who voted for Obama and against your idiot governor?

I mean, jeez, the Geneva Conventions outlawed collective punishment, didn't they?

7. Governors must eventually answer to those who voted for them, not the rest of Americans
Since we didn't vote them in to office we can't demand much of anything, but we can openly criticize them all we want. That's Democracy.

10. My understanding is they don't want to change the state restrictions on unemployment

for part time workers. The money will pay for two years if they change the requirement that people need to have held a full time position to get unemployment but after that the full added cost for covering part time workers will fall on the employer. One reason some companies are based in the south is because they don't have to cover part time non-permanant employees for unemployment benefits. The states will take the infrastructure money.

11. I would rather Obama find a way to BYPASS THE GOVERNORS.
And, get the money to the people directly. It could really go a long way in future elections, as many of these governors are using it for their presidential runs.

And, it would help the people that need it.

12. I agree. And if the people of those states don't raise hell, then I guess
they don't want it either. I have family in Mississippi but I don't know what they think about this. Experience tells me that since it's coming from the Dems, then my family doesn't like it.
