Why the GOP is SO DESPERATE to see Bush Tax Cuts Remain
Edited on Mon Feb-23-09 11:36 AM by WeDidIt
It's simple, really.

If Obama's stimulus actually produces jobs after the tax cuts for the rich expire, their TAX CUTS, TAX CUTS, TAX CUTS!!!" meme dies.

1. That is the reason behind their whole opposition to the stimulus
They need Obama's stimulus to fail or their tax cut will fix everything meme is dead.

2. I'm sure that's true. I know every time I hear another Pub yelping
about tax cuts, I scream at my TV "You don't OWE taxes if you are unemployed or not making a proofit...YOU IDIOTS!" There are very few co's that are going to post a profit in the next few quarters, so TAX CUTS would do NOTHING!!!!

This AM some Pub called the WJ gripeing that there's no $$ in stimulus to help small business. He wants to start a business and nobody will lend him $$ to buy equipment. Doesn't this idiot realize that something has to generate spending power FIRST? If people don't have any money, no business is going to be able to sell their product!

3. The tax cut, tax cut, tax cut meme should already be dead since
that was the plan enacted over the past 8 years and we see where it's gotten us.

4. Bingo
If those tax cuts were so great why are we where we are now?

These should not only be removed, but Obama should RAISE the marginal tax rates back to Clinton levels or higher.

5. The tax cuts gave the
rich more money to invest in their businesses and expand therefore hiring more people. Isn't that what the RW idol Reagan said? Yeah, that worked out real great. Trickle down. I heard a stand up comedian say once he went into a fancy restaurant for some of the "rich people" food to trickle over to his plate.

Bullshit on their tax cuts. They've made enough in the last 8 years to prop up their inheritor's for a life time.

7. We need some trickle up action
Heck trickle up works better and makes the country richer than trickle down.

Trickle up works by taxing the rich by raising the marginal rates, raise the payroll tax on the rich, etc. Then spend that money on programs that help the poor, and on infrastructure such as public transportation, roads, health care, and even more tax cuts for the poor. The money you cut from the taxes from the poor pours immediately into OUR economy, and then people who want to get rich off that can and the money trickles up from the hands of the poor to the shop owners, to the suppliers, to the factory owners....instead of giving that money to the factory owner to do what exactly with? expand his factory? Why? The poor dont' have the money to buy more goods.

Trickle Up Economics. Helps the poor and the rich.
